A Year of Innovation and Transformation

AFH is excited to unveil our 2019 Annual Report and share the innovations and transformations made by our team in 2019.   The landscape of HIV treatment and prevention is changing more quickly than ever. The agency responded to these changes by realigning itself around the four pillars of the national plan to End the HIV Epidemic by 2030: Diagnose , Treat , Prevent , and Respond .   In the report you can read up-to-date HIV statistics for the U.S. and the Houston area, as well as a guide to all AFH programs and the impact they have made on our community. You’ll also find an agency financial overview, client demographics, and information about our leadership team and board.   We are excited to share our mission through the firsthand accounts of clients who get to tell their stories of how your support is directly impacting those served by our programs. Major donors and agency partners are acknowledged for their generosity.   The report also highlights our expansion of AFH PrEP Care and our partnership with the tele-health PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis) provider mistr. Both programs are working to prevent new transmissions of HIV in Houston and the surrounding area by providing FREE testing and PrEP , a once-daily pill regimen that is up to 99 percent effective at preventing HIV transfer via sexual contact.   Read or download the report from our website and t ake a look at our Annual Report Introduction Video for information on how we are continuing to serve our clients and the Houston community under COVID-19.

SISTR Joins MISTR and AFH PrEP Care in Preventing HIV

AFH is excited to announce the launch of sistr , a companion service to mistr . While mistr is a service that enables HIV-negative men to get PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis) without ever leaving the privacy of their own home—sistr provides the same convenience and confidentiality for HIV-negative women. PrEP is a once-daily pill regimen that is up to 99 percent effective at preventing HIV transfer via sexual contact.   The sistr tele-health portal enables women to consult securely with a licensed physician, complete required lab work in the privacy of their own home, and have PrEP delivered at no cost each month.   Those who prefer to consult with medical professionals in person and have their HIV/STI testing done on-site are still welcome to do so by making an appointment with AFH PrEP Care . AFH Plans Phased Return to Operations

AIDS Foundation Houston remains under a Modified Operations Plan until the Harris County COVID-19 Threat Level System moves to Threat Level 3. This plan both minimizes risk associated with COVID-19 to our clients, staff, and volunteers and enables us to continue to deliver our vital mission to the community. Under the plan, AFH is currently providing HIV testing and PrEP care services by appointment only in the clinic. For an appointment, please call 832-AFH-PrEP . The Stone Soup Food Pantry is also in operation on a contact-less basis. Clients are able to pick-up pre-packed bags of food in the lobby while supplies last and by appointment only. Appointments can be made by contacting [email protected]. Limit: one appointment per household per month. N o walk-in services are available at this time.   Other main office staff members will continue to work from home until the Harris County Threat Level System moves to Threat Level 3. Camp Hope 2020 at Home - Adapting to COVID-19

Due to COVID-19, AFH won’t be able to welcome our campers in person this summer, but we are excited to bring them Camp Hope at Home – Animal Planet edition! While nothing compares to the excitement of tackling the ropes course for the first time, or showing off your skills in the talent show, we will continue to share the mission and values of camp that we know mean so much to our campers. We are also including s iblings of campers living with HIV in our Camp-at-Home program! We still need your help to make this happen!   Support our campers with a gift to Camp Hope today , and help us continue to make memories for our campers and keep the spirit and excitement of Camp Hope alive! In addition to inviting siblings of HIV-positive campers to camp next year, we are inviting 17 year-old camp graduates back to participate in our inaugural Teen Leadership Institute: Grown-ish! The goal of Grown-ish is to help prepare campers for the next steps after high school.
