A Message from the Interim Dean & Upcoming Events!
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Blessed Lent to each of you.
I truly hope you are enjoying Rediscover Jesus. It is a book that stretches our thinking about the radical love of Jesus. If you did not receive a book, please let me know and we will make delivery ASAP. We have delivered about 160 books to parish families. Thank you to the drivers and all who helped in getting the Lenten resources to our homes.
The heart of the gospel is generosity. Think of all the ways that Jesus was generous: sharing, listening, healing, providing meals, patience, love, and more. Jesus’ way was radical and generous and filled with love. The soul of the gospel is forgiveness. Just think how life changes when we forgive and let go of what ever it is that holds us back. It is the heart and soul of the gospel that empowers our commitment to God; it is the heart and soul of the gospel that shapes us and encourages us in our discipleship. Pray and reflect on how you might reflect the heart and soul of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
We have a new soft room, called the Parlor, in the Cathedral office space on the first floor. The Parlor is available for gatherings, meetings, workspace, coffee and reading, hanging out, and more. Drop by, check out the space and thank the volunteers who created this for us all.
We had our first Drive In Movie and it was a big hit! Next week's movie is Wonder, followed by the Case for Christ and then Coco. On Good Friday, join us for the movie The Robe, a story of the crucifixion of Jesus. Popcorn and soda are available.
I invite you to pray with us and worship with us, invite your friends and neighbors to gather with the St. Mary’s family for Holy Week and Easter. Holy Week begins with Palm Sunday and the procession of Palms. Holy Week includes Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday. On Maundy Thursday we celebrate the institution of the Lord’s Supper followed by the stripping of the altar. We prepare for Good Friday by veiling the crosses in black and reflecting on the last words of Jesus. We begin Holy Saturday where Good Friday left off, we light the first light of Easter, and transform the sanctuary from death to life, from Good Friday to the Alleluias of Easter. Easter morning we begin with a Sunrise service at 6:45 and an Easter Festive service at 10am. Services will be in-person and Covid safe as well as online.
Wish list
+ sheer curtains for the first floor Dining room and Parlor in the office building
+ Paint the third floor office and prepare it for occupancy
Transition: We are beginning to look at job descriptions and the needs of St, Mary’s. The goal is to be an effective team that meets the needs and mission of St. Mary’s while utilizing the gifts of our staff. The transition team is being formed and will be meeting soon. We will look at specific goals so that the mission of Jesus Christ can be strong and life changing for all.
Opportunities to Serve: We are looking for people like you to serve on committees and to help shape and carry out the work of the gospel through the committees: Stewardship, Christian Education, Worship, Property and Servant ministry. If you are interested please call or text Rev Jean Vargo at 402 302-5600
Together we are the Church. Blessings to you and the people you meet,
