Friends
This Saturday (March 12th) at 11am we will gather for our “annual” congregational meeting. I use the term “annual” loosely as the past couple of years have restricted our gatherings, as you know.
Some think that these are simply “business meetings” but that is not how I see them. I see them as our way of being deeply involved in both our spirituality and the place that we trust in shepherding that part within us. They keep us looking forward to what God is calling us and how each of us makes our mark, makes our voices of the Spirit heard. They remind us of our responsibility to the church that we are members of.
These meetings are important and at this meeting we will be sharing information that is significant to our life and vision together. We will also receive the financial reports, vote on some changes to our bylaws and elect three persons to serve on the Board of Stewards. There is a lot to be done and catch up on and I sincerely hope that you will be able to join us, especially you are a member of the church. Your voice and vote is important. As a congregational church, we are always reminded that the church, and its future belongs to the you!
I sincerely hope that you will be able to join us on Saturday, and if not, I do hope that you have completed your absentee ballot.
This Sunday is Lent 2 and we continue to think about our beloved-ness. We will explore the story of Jesus’ transfiguration and the ways in which God called the disciples to “listen to Him.” We will listen to God as we move more deeply into the passion of a Christ and God’s love for each of us. We will listen to our hearts and know that it beats with the love of God for self and neighbor and demonstrated by the ways in which we live. Again, this Sunday we will collect our “Blessing Bags” and be invited, as an act of generosity and service, to offer them to those who are housing and food insecure.
I look forward to seeing many of you this weekend and offer you a blessing of God that is LOVE indeed.

The Bible asks us to give our first and our best back to God, and God will bless the rest. According to the Bible, the first is the tithe, or “tenth” of our income. We return 10% of what God has given us. In Malachi 3:10-11, God says, "Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse that there may be food in my house." The 'storehouse' is the Old Testament picture of the New Testament church. Jesus himself affirmed tithing (Matthew 23:23), and it is one small way to respond with gratitude and worship.
Giving away 10% of our income can be a big – and often frightening – commitment! That's why I am inviting you to join me in a 90-Day Tithing Challenge: a money-back guarantee of sorts.
God doesn't need our money. God owns everything. But we give first because it takes faith to give and God wants us to trust in God’s promises. Tithing is a very practical and tangible way to put God first in our lives.
If, in faith and trust, you are willing to journey with me, please take a moment to check out our Tithing Challenge webpage and fill out the commitment card.

A Note from Equality Forward
This Friday, March 11, the Texas Family and Protective Services Council within DFPS is holding a meeting to go over agency business and will be open for public comment.
This is our chance to inform Commissioner Masters about the negative consequences her decision to comply with the governors cruel directive to investigate loving families of transgender youth around the state.
Commissioner Masters’s decision to comply with a non-binding directive that did not change the law has created a state of fear. No loving parents deserves the immense stress and pain of being directly targeted by a state government.
Here’s how you can help this Friday:

The Making of Biblical Womanhood: How the Subjugation of Women Became Gospel Truth
Biblical womanhood--the belief that God designed women to be submissive wives, virtuous mothers, and joyful homemakers--pervades North American Christianity. From choices about careers to roles in local churches to relationship dynamics, this belief shapes the everyday lives of evangelical women. Yet biblical womanhood isn't biblical, says Baylor University historian Beth Allison Barr. It arose from a series of clearly definable historical moments.
This book moves the conversation about biblical womanhood beyond Greek grammar and into the realm of church history--ancient, medieval, and modern--to show that this belief is not divinely ordained but a product of human civilization that continues to creep into the church. Barr's historical insights provide context for contemporary teachings about women's roles in the church and help move the conversation forward.
Interweaving her story as a Baptist pastor's wife, Barr sheds light on the #ChurchToo movement and abuse scandals in Southern Baptist circles and the broader evangelical world, helping readers understand why biblical womanhood is more about human power structures than the message of Christ.
