Vocalist Catherine Russell, who was nominated for Best Jazz Vocal Album by the 59th Grammy Awards, for her new album, “Harlem On My Mind” on Jazz Village [PIAS], will be making her debut appearances at The Jazz Showcase in Chicago, performing with her Quartet from October 12 through 15, 2017. Catherine won a Grammy as a featured artist in 2012, for her “Crazy Blues” contribution to the soundtrack of the HBO series Boardwalk Empire. In addition to the Grammy nomination, “Harlem On My Mind” has been named as one of the Best 50 Albums of 2016 (all genres) by the scribes at NPR Music , who noted that “Catherine Russell is a rarity. She can sing a story like no one else.” The LA Times went further, saying that with “Russell’s natural unforced way with a song, and the personal touch she brings to it...she virtually stands alone on today’s jazz landscape.”
