This Week's Topic: The Sacraments of Healing

In today's newsletter, we reflect upon the Sacraments of Healing. These are the sacraments that we reach for in the midst of suffering, whether physical (Anointing of the Sick) or spiritual (Reconciliation). In the great wisdom of the Church, these two sacraments are repeatable, for sickness and sin are continual realities that we encounter in our lives. Both Reconciliation and Anointing of the Sick are indispensable resources and sources of grace to help us in our ongoing journey of discipleship.

Why is the Sacrament of Reconciliation essential—and potentially life-changing—for Catholics? How does the Anointing of the Sick make a difference to those who are suffering or dying?

Confession is a place of never ending mercy and forgiveness, and is one of the most beautiful parts of our Catholic faith. But for many, it can also be a very daunting experience, especially if it’s been a long time since your last confession. Whether it’s the first time you’ve gone in a year, or it’s the first time you’ve gone in your life, God is ready and willing to forgive your sins. All we have to do is let him into our hearts.

Reconciliation at Saint Pius X

Hear from our pastor, Msgr. Mike Heintz, about Reconciliation opportunities and procedures here in our parish. Visit StPius.net/Reconciliation to view our weekly schedule of Confession times.

Anointing of the Sick at Saint Pius X

Visit StPius.net/Anointing to learn more about seasonal opportunities for communal Anointing of the Sick. If you or a loved one is sick or hospitalized, please contact our parish office right away! Our priests would be glad to arrange for the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick. In addition, we can arrange for a homebound parishioner to be brought Communion if they are unable to make it to Mass.

Saint Mary Magdalene

Saint Mary Magdalene was a prominent follower of Jesus, and she receives many mentions throughout the Gospels. This woman, from whom seven demons were cast out, was one of the first witnesses of Jesus' Resurrection and became, as Saint Thomas Aquinas called her, the "Apostle to the Apostles."
