As the 2022 quickly comes to an end, if you or a friend/relative is thinking about making a year-end donation, consider donating to the Tax Credit Scholarships through the Illinois Invest in Kids Act.
As the ONLY wall-to-wall Catholic elementary International Baccalaureate School in Illinois, we remain committed to our mission of welcoming everyone regardless of background or financial situation. The reality today is that the financial need of our nearly 300 students is greater than our financial resources.
The State of Illinois has created a tax credit scholarship program through the “Invest in Kids” Act that is mutually beneficial to students and donors. It provides a 75 percent Illinois state income tax credit to donors who contribute money to fund scholarships for students to attend private schools. Eligible students from low-income families in Illinois may use these scholarships to attend a private school such as St. Matthias. In addition, there is an available but limited match for qualifying schools. The match is available until funds are depleted.
How it Works:

A family donates money in any amount by going to the EmpowerIllinois.org website
- Request an ID (once requested, you will receive an ID in the mail)
- Activate your Account once your ID is received
- Reserve your Credit
- Make your Donation

Based on a $1,000 donation, the donor will receive $750 in a tax credit–resulting in a net cost to the donor of $250
- The $1,000 donation will be MATCHED as long as funds remain available
- St. Matthias School will receive $2,000 if matching dollars are available to be given in the form of a scholarship to St. Matthias students
St. Matthias relies heavily on the Tax Credit Scholarship program. Last year, we received $150,000 from generous donors and had $250,000 in unmet scholarship needs.
