Dear Friends,
Crafting one's life is an ongoing process of making choices, taking risks, evaluating and hitting repeat. At least that's the way I've always approached it. I have never considered any of the changes that I made in my life as mistakes but rather choices that yielded a particular result - sometimes not the result that I anticipated, but there was always something that I learned and that informed and moved me toward the next step. Years ago when my daughter was in high school, I would drop her off at school and shout through the window, "have a curious mind!" For me, living with eyes, ears, mind, and heart open, being curious about the world around me and particularly that which was unfamiliar, embracing new experiences, and even digging deeper into that which I thought I already knew - all brought such discovery. This is how I have always learned - through observation, contemplation, and being unafraid of taking a chance.
I have learned many lessons over this past year of "pausing." I am keeping myself open to new possibilities and opportunities, and addressing priorities, namely, devoting more time to my studio practice. Next month my friend Petra will once again host an open studio at her studio in Woodstock, NY and I am excited to be showing new works on paper along with fellow artists Diane Dwyer, Elizabeth Gourlay, Mandolyn Wilson Rosen and Petra Nimtz. The dates coincide with Upstate Art Weekend where there will be many locations to see great art. P lease add us to your list of stops for that weekend.
To continued adventures!
Sending love to you all,
xo Janice

Tho' much is taken, much abides; and tho'
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved heaven and earth; that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.
Ulysses, Tennyson
