Caution - Coyote

4-23-2024

This blast is to inform you that multiple residents have seen a coyote casually strolling our streets over the past week. Residents with small pets need to be especially cautious.

AZ's Game and Fish Department website addresses this issue with suggestions on how to discourage coyotes and what to do if you encounter one. A couple of tips are:

  • Remove pet food, water bowls, garbage, and other attractants from around your home.

&

  • If you do encounter a coyote, make loud noises, keep eye contact, but DO NOT turn and run away as it might elicit the coyote’s predatory chase response.

Additionally, special thanks go to Highland resident and City of Scottsdale employee, Donna Baldwin, for her assistance with this issue. She was told the coyote was seen gaining entry to our neighborhood through the drain grate at the corner of 79th and Coolidge. In response, she reached out to her City of Scottsdale connections and requested inspectors check out the grates and modify them if needed. Thank you, Donna.
