CAVALIER NEWSLETTER

September 4, 2026

At John Carroll Catholic High School, we educate young men and women in a welcoming Catholic environment that promotes academic excellence, nurtures holistic integrity, and inspires Christ-like servant leadership.

Dear Cavalier Students & Families,

As we navigate the evolving landscape of education, our commitment to our mission remains steadfast. Each day, we aim to educate young men and women in a nurturing environment grounded in academic excellence, holistic integrity, and Christ-like servant leadership.

As we pursue academic excellence, expand our curriculum, and support athletics and the fine arts, we must also address the challenges of nurturing, sustaining, and promoting initiatives tied to growth in all areas. We must be proactive and ready to seize opportunities in order to continue to flourish.

For this reason, I am excited to share some leadership changes at JCCHS.

Dr. Katie King ('97) will assume the role of Director of Creative Strategy, allowing her to concentrate on the key priorities of developing new educational pathways for our school. She will also foster external partnerships and resources, ensuring that John Carroll and its curricula stay at the forefront of Catholic secondary education innovation. This change aligns with our strategic vision and will significantly enhance the student experience both now and in the future.

As a result, Dr. Amanda Giles will transition into the position of Director of Curriculum. Currently serving as Director of Student Success, Dr. Giles oversees the counseling department, resource office, student support staff, and teacher instructional development. With a PhD in Curriculum and Instruction, she has collaborated with Dr. King for the past four years, and her experience and understanding of John Carroll will enable her to effectively meet the needs of our students and faculty.

Finally, to strengthen the integration of our Catholic identity within the John Carroll curriculum, Mrs. Jennifer LeBlanc will assume the additional role of Director of Curriculum Integration. Her primary focus will be ensuring that our Catholic faith and mission are seamlessly integrated into a cohesive curriculum. With extensive experience in Catholic education as both a teacher and administrator, Mrs. LeBlanc is well-equipped to help us fully maximize our curriculum while pursuing our holistic mission.

Again, we are excited about these changes and ask for your prayers for these individuals, as well as our entire faculty and staff, as we continue our efforts to serve God and our community.

LEARNING AT JCCHS

Mr. Marlow’s 9th grade advanced biology class, while reviewing the metric system and science skills, ran an experiment to prove double stuffed Oreos are truly double stuffed!

Mr. Bittinger's science class recently used wireless smart carts to measure motion, force and momentum! The smart cart is an advanced, low friction physics tool that's great for hands-on classroom work!

STATIONS OF THE CROSS GIFT

Members of John Carroll's Young Men of Faith recently placed new Station of the Cross plaques at our outdoor Stations of the Cross locations around campus.

These plaques were donated by Mike McIntyre in memory of his wife, Jan McIntyre (parents of JCCHS faculty member Mrs. Jennifer LeBlanc). Now classes, individuals, and groups can pray the Stations of the Cross in a beautiful outdoor environment.

Thank you to Mr. McIntyre for this special addition to our outdoor Stations!

Attendance 'Need to Know'

Absence, for any reason, removes the student from the primary learning environment and thus has a negative effect on student achievement. Therefore, students are expected to be in school and on time when school is in session, that is, when there are classes, tests, and examinations or school sponsored activities/programs/retreats/field trips.

Check out all the details of the attendance policies at JCCHS by visiting pages 17-20 of the Student Handbook (this includes late arrivals, early dismissals, excused and unexcused absences, etc.). Check it out to be 'in the know'!

National Honor Society Tutoring

National Honor Society members serve the school community by providing tutoring support for students.  Tutoring is available during the school day, before school, and after school.
