Some plants rarely seen in local garden centers are the Crinum Lilies,
Amaryllis relatives that are hardy perennials in this area. Part of the
reason is that they are slow to establish, like the spring-flowering
Peonies. Once they are established, though, they can put on quite a show throughout the summer months, and can live a very long time.
Crinum Lilies can be quite imposing; Crinum 'Super Ellen' flowers at six feet tall with heads of 10-15 flowers, while Crinum 'Hannibal's Dwarf' is more compact and stays under two feet.
Crinum 'Menehune' sports reddish-black foliage, making it nice for mixed planters, and it stays under 18 inches. All listed have flowers in shades of pink, but colors can range from white to deep reddish-pink, and white with red stripes.
Plants enjoy full sun and prefer moist to wet soils, though average soil
moisture will do. Give plenty of room for the larger varieties; plants
can be coarse-textured and architectural, which may not work for some gardeners.
We have some nice, well-grown gallon pots of 'Super Ellen' and 'Hannibal's Dwarf', and full quart pots of 'Menehune'.

Meet the Cedar Creek Gallery Staff:
Becca Culver
Meet Becca!
Becca Culver grew up admiring the natural beauty of her extended family’s home in North Carolina. After earning her Art Education degree from Mansfield University in Pennsylvania, Becca made the trek to North Carolina and began her current position as a middle school art teacher in Franklin County.
Becca discovered Cedar Creek Gallery through Alan Bennett, who was her ceramics instructor in college. For the past three years, we have been lucky to have Becca working in the gallery on weekends and during the summer.
Becca’s fiance, Nick, is also from Pennsylvania. Upon meeting, they had a serendipitous discovery that in 2016 they moved to North Carolina on the same day! We are excited to raise a glass in honor of their upcoming marriage. If you happen to notice Becca behind the counter, she is welcoming honeymoon suggestions.
When she isn’t making creative handwritten signs that you see while shopping at Cedar Creek Gallery, she enjoys walking her dog, Ozzie Pawsborne around Falls Lake.
