Cedar Heights Elementary Remembers Mr. Bartlett

Photos by Kim Pierce

September 25th is Mr. Bartlett's birthday and the entire school wore orange in remembrance of him. Orange was his favorite color and he would wear his fantastic orange pants often. As a school they made a memory chain. Every student at Cedar Heights was given a link to decorate with a memory, picture or story of Mr. Bartlett. The links were then connected into classroom chains and then all the classroom chains were linked together at the school assembly.

Student Safety & Parent Resources
Students and staff at all Cedar Falls Schools participate in drills to continually improve our Safe School Plan. These drills, or immediate response actions, help make sure everyone understands what to do in a crisis situation. Drills are practiced for fire, tornado, dangerous intruder and off-site evacuation situations. Classroom teachers explain the purpose of the drill in age-appropriate discussions with students and drills are clearly identified as "only a drill".

Our staff also practices for an event where students and parents need to be reunified outside of normal dismissal procedures. You can help us be ready to implement this parent reunification plan by keeping your phone numbers, email addresses, and emergency contact information updated at all times. It's important for you to know that because student safety is our highest concern, students will only be released to parents and pre-identified emergency contacts. Photo identification will also be required.

Look for specific information from your building principal regarding scheduled drills at each school. Also visit our website and Parent Guide for additional information about the district's Safe School Plan.
