The stories of Habitat homeowners often feature dedicated fathers who will go to any length to create a better future for their families. Cedar Valley Habitat for Humanity wishes a happy Father's Day to all the dads who work to build strong foundations.
Construction updates
A wide shot of the Faith Build home
Cedar Valley Habitat for Humanity started construction on the 2022 Faith Build Home in the Oakhill Jackson neighborhood of Cedar Rapids. Volunteers from New Covenant Bible Church and Habitat Crew Leaders are shown here installing the floor joists for the second floor.

June 19 - Juneteenth
Juneteenth image
Juneteenth is an annual celebration that commemorates the end of slavery in the United States on June 19, 1865. While the emancipation of all enslaved people was a major landmark in American freedom, it was just the beginning for an equal society.

As a global organization, Habitat for Humanity is committed to ending housing inequality, a primary culprit behind the large racial wealth gap between black and white households in the U.S. In fact, home equity represents the largest portion of an American family's wealth, but only 44% of black Americans own their homes, compared with 74% of white Americans. Volunteer Spotlight: Richard
Richard began volunteering with Cedar Valley Habitat for Humanity ReStore in 2006, when the store was in its original Hiawatha location. Donated electrical goods were piling up, and staff had no way to ensure their quality before sale. Richard volunteered to be one of ReStore's first specialists in testing and repairing electrical goods.

Since then, he's volunteered almost every Wednesday to help ReStore stock great products to raise funds for Cedar Valley Habitat for Humanity's mission. "I enjoy the work, and how you never know what's going to come in next," says Richard. "Every few weeks there's something I've never worked on, and I get to figure out how to make it work. It's definitely interesting. You'll never get bored."
If you'd like to donate your time and talent by volunteering with Habitat, please contact Kelly Murphy at [email protected] or 319.366.4485 ext. 104
