letter

Can it really be October!  As I draft this letter, the temperature outside is 95 degrees...it's more like July. Despite the heat, October is Virginia Wine Month.  The wineries are open and welcoming visitors to celebrate the harvest and sample the "local crush".  Get  October 19 on your calendar, the day when Virginians will gather together at harvest parties in celebra- tion of the foods and wines of the Commonwealth.

The emphasis of the October newsletter is on Events around the state, many of which are listed and others you will find at www.virginiawine.org and www.virginia.org.  Our Winery of the Month is Casanel Vineyards
in Leesburg.  It's a great time to visit the winery as they mark the 11th anniversary of the opening of the Tasting Room, a special favorite of
Wine Lovers.

It will soon be time to vote for your Favorite Virginia Winery Tasting Room, so take notes as you travel around this month.  Information about the Visitor's Choice Awards will be coming soon.

Happy Wine Month!  And, as always, cheers to Virginia Wine Lovers.

CASANEL VINEYARDS & WINERY
People, Passion and a Sense of Place

Casanel Vineyards in Leesburg is a family-owned and operated Virginia winery. The property waspurchased by Casey and Nelson DeSouza in 2006, and they started right away, hand-planting 10,000 vines and restoring historical buildings. The Tasting Room opened 11 years ago this month and Casanel will be celebrating with a weekend of anniversary events on October 18-19. The festivities include live music entertainment on Friday evening and Sunday afternoon, highl ighted with a Harvest Dinner on Saturday evening. Details are on the website: www.casanelvineyards.com

The country-style Casanel Tasting Room, consistently voted a top favorite of Wine Lovers, is a hand-renovated 1800s stone barn that was on the property. An event space was a 2014 addition. A smaller more intimate wine club includes exclusive perks for members, such as library tastings, special events and dinners.
