Let's all take a few minutes out to breathe and cheer on our fellow do-gooders as we celebrate some awesome nonprofit news from this week. Let's get into What's Good!

Channel Marker

Channel Marker is hosting a great free event TOMORROW night (Thursday, 6/26). They will be screening Stay Alive, a documentary film that conveys an intimate conversation about suicide prevention and mental health, featuring international speaker Kevin Hines, Mark Goulston, MD, Suicide Prevention Expert, and Rayko, Suicide Prevention Advocate.

After the screening, Kevin Hines himself will lead a panel discussion. This event is free to the public. If you are located on Maryland's Mid-Shore, and would like to attend, it will be held in the Cambridge South Dorchester High School Auditorium at 6 pm. For more information or to RSVP, email stayalive@channelmarker.org. Best of luck to Channel Marker on this important event. I hope it sparks meaningful conversations and helps a lot of people!

Tred Avon Players

Tred Avon Players is launching a brand new summer program for students in 5th through 12th grade... Shakespeare Midsummer Stage!

This immersive four-day workshop offers a fun, engaging, and educational opportunity to explore the timeless works of William Shakespeare. The kids will explore iconic Shakespearean plays like Hamlet, Macbeth, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream, engage in interactive readings and scene studies, learn acting techniques to bring Shakespeare’s characters to life, and participate in group discussions and workshops led by theater professionals. What a great opportunity for "theater kids" to stay engaged, learning, and having fun during summer break! Congrats to TAP on this awesome new program. Hopefully, they will send us an update after the workshop so we can find out how it went!

Waterfowl Festival

Congratulations to the Waterfowl Festival on being awarded an $83,000 Historical Preservation Grant to fix the roof of their historic building. Constructed in 1927, the Easton (Maryland) Armory, like many National Guard Armories of the 1920s and 1930s, was designed to mimic a fortress and displays Medieval Revival-inspired elements.

The building served as an armory until 1976, when it was deeded to the Department of Natural Resources in 1976 for use as their police headquarters. In 1997, the town took ownership of the building and transferred stewardship of the armory to the Chesapeake Waterfowl Festival, an annual celebration that draws more than 15,000 attendees each year. The space is also available for local nonprofits and other organizations to use for various events. Although an exterior rehabilitation of the building that included repointing and window repairs and replacements was completed in 2024, the barrel roof remained unrepaired. This grant now makes the roof repairs possible. This building is so important to its community, and it is really wonderful to see it getting the love and care it needs, not just to carry on its past history, but to make new local history within its walls!

Richardson Maritime Museum

The Richardson Maritime Museum in Cambridge, Maryland is welcoming the historic Skipjack Perigrine back to the museum.

The boat originally came from the Richardson shipyard, built by local Jim Brighton. A group of men purchased the boat, refitted it, and donated it back to the museum, where it will be refurbished and given a new life. Welcome home, Peregrine! Click here to listen to a radio segment on the Peregrine's return.

Leadership Richardson

Speaking of "Richardson," Leadership Richardson from Richardson, Texas just graduated its 40th class! Leadership Richardson, a program of the Richardson Chamber of Commerce, is an inclusive, unique opportunity that strives to grow leaders who can cross divides, build bridges and solve complex issues, whether in their communities, volunteer activities or workplaces.

The program explores all aspects of the community, including arts, culture, diversity, business and economic development, city government, regionalism, healthcare, public education, public safety, social services and more while growing problem-solving skills of participants. The 40 graduates of the class of 2025 wrapped up their program with a totally radical 80’s party. Congratulations to all of the program graduates. The Richardson community is so fortunate to have so many stellar leaders in its midst!

Association of Fundraising Professionals, Washington, DC Metro Area Chapter

Three cheers for AFP-DC, which recently celebrated its 60th Anniversary! The chapter welcomed Herman Art Taylor, President & CEO of The Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP Global), who offered words of inspiration. The event was led by Chapter President Kristen (Kris) Kuhns and VP of membership Tommy Amal, MS, CFRE. Here's to 60 more years!

AllThrive 365

Tamara Bohannon, CFRE, the CEO at AllThrive 365, is taking her leadership to the trail. She is currently walking the 77 miles of the Camino de Santiago in honor of her 62nd birthday and her lifelong commitment to healthy aging.

Tamara is using her journey to help raise money in support of AllThrive 365's mission. The walk officially began just the other day, on June 22nd. You can follow her journey and send her encouragement on the organization's Instagram, @AllThrive365. Learn more here. What a phenomenal way to literally walk the walk of your organization's mission. I hope you will join me in wishing Tamara all the best on her incredible journey!

Edu-Futuro

Now, we're headed to Northern Virginia, where Edu-Futuro was just awarded one of only two Impact 100 DC $100,000 grants! Impact 100 DC is an all-volunteer women’s collective giving organization working to fuel the work of nonprofits addressing unmet needs in their community. Edu-Futuro began as an academic enrichment program to support Arlington’s growing Latino immigrant population.

Over the years, it has evolved into a comprehensive nonprofit organization serving diverse communities across Northern Virginia. With a vision of realizing the potential of immigrant and underserved youth and their families, Edu-Futuro employs a research-based, Two-Generation approach to ensure that both youth and parents achieve postsecondary goals, improve financial stability, and strengthen family cohesiveness. What a great way to close out our celebrations for this week! Congratulations to Edu-Futuro... I know you will make a huge impact with that life-changing grant!

Help What's Good Be Best of the Best!

Last year, I was fortunate to be named a finalist in the Best Consultant category in the APG Best of the Best Chesapeake contest. If you live on the Mid-Shore and have been following my work, I would be honored if you would nominate me in both the Best Consultant and Best Customer Service categories while you're shouting out your other favorite local businesses. The nomination period runs through July 20th, and you can nominate up to once per day.

Many thanks in advance for your support!
