Happy Wednesday, fellow nonprofiteers!

Whew! We blinked, and another whirlwind week has done by! Things can get busy and overwhelming in the nonprofit world. That's why it's important to stop every once in a while and take the time to reflect on the impact that your important work has on your community and the world.

Join me as we celebrate the wonderful work of this week's featured organizations... And of course, make sure to send me what your organization is celebrating so I can feature you in an upcoming edition of the newsletter!

What's Good This Week!

What's Good, LLC (Hey, that's me!)

I am excited to share that my article, "Be Strategic About Your Nonprofit's Strategic Planning," was published in this week's edition of Nonprofit Pro Magazine! If you're in strategic planning mode, this article offers some tips to help your team approach planning with success in mind!

Eastern Shore Rabbit Rescue and Education Center

The Eastern Shore Rabbit Rescue and Education Center celebrated their 500th rabbit adoption on June 28th. The lucky rabbit’s name was Chalky, and he was adopted by Tracey and Chris Yiannakis and their daughter Skylar. Chalky was originally transferred to the rescue in 2024 from Baltimore County Animal Services, which had confiscated over 60 rabbits in a hoarding case.

They are quick to share that Chalky’s “happy ending” is made possible by dedicated volunteers who manage all aspects of the rabbit rescue, including fundraising, veterinary visits, catching stray rabbits, and holding adoption events. ESRREC has been serving the Eastern Shore since 2014!

Partners In Care

Partners in Care is celebrating the opening of their Upscale Resale Boutique. When you shop, you are giving back, helping older adults live independently with dignity and respect. If you are on Maryland's Mid-Shore and want to support a great local mission, the boutique is located at 8694 Commerce Drive in Easton, and will be open on Tuesdays and Fridays from 10 am to 2 pm. They will have clothing and accessories, housewares, home dĂ©cor, and artwork for sale, with proceeds going to Partners in Care.

They are also seeking volunteer drivers in Caroline and Talbot Counties to transport older adults to medical appointments, grocery stores, pharmacies, banks, and to run other errands. A bonus of volunteering through Partners in Care is that you earn time to use Partners in Care services for yourself or an immediate family member when you or they are aged 60 or older. If you are in the area and interested in volunteering, call 410-822-1803 or visit Partnersincare.org.

I love this volunteer model, and it is a great message that has the potential to convert volunteers into donors. It really drives home to supporters that they aren't just helping their neighbors, they are also helping themselves. One day, they or someone they love could need these services, and they will want to make sure Partners in Care is available when that time comes. Way to go, Partners in Care!

Talbot Humane

Talbot Humane asked me to share a “hoorah” to the community, thanking everyone who participated in their annual Yard Sale on June 28th. They say the event had its best turnout ever and rallied the best donation return to date. We're sending big congratulations to Talbot Humane, and a big round of applause to the community for helping make this their most successful yard sale yet!

They also asked me to put out a reminder that their 7th annual Petparazzi Calendar Contest is still going on. This year's winner will be named the 2026 Talbot Humane SpokesPet, and will be featured in Talbot Humane promotions and advertising all year long. This is such an uber-creative cross between and fundraiser and a friendraiser. Plus, everyone gets to look at photos of cute pets.... Seems like a winner to me! Learn more about the Petparazzi contest at gogophotocontest.com/talbothumane2026

Washington College

Over the next two weeks, the Washington College Innovation Plant is getting a makeover through craft, creativity, and community, with the help of nearly 50 high school and college students. The building is located at 800 High Street in Chestertown, Maryland, which is the former location of Dixon Valve and Vita Foods. Each student will receive $1200 to create projects inspired by the rich history of the area and looking to the future.

The work is part of the Hip Hop Time Capsule program, where students use elements of hip hop to create, tell stories, and connect the past to the future, all while building technical skills, soft skills, and real-world experiences that prepare them for the workforce. What an incredible way for students to express their creativity, learn valuable skills, and contribute to the history of their community!

Books for International Goodwill

Books for International Goodwill (or BIG) is celebrating having processed its 10 millionth book! For 40 years, BIG, based in the Annapolis, MD area, has maintained its mission of “keeping books alive” by sending them to underserved populations in the US and abroad.  What an incredible milestone for this organization! Congratulations, BIG, and here's to 10 million more!

Community Boost

Last week, the NYC Nonprofit Club, powered by nonprofit digital marketing company Community Boost, partnered with Microsoft and LinkedIn for an epic networking event.

More than 120 nonprofit professionals gathered together for an incredible networking opportunity and an interactive workshop, during which they learned how to use Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat to craft LinkedIn content. Congratulations to Community Boost for finding such a creative way to both strengthen corporate and nonprofit relationships and introduce new ways to make lighter work for todays nonprofit professionals!

Network of Community Ministries

The Network of Community Ministries in Richardson, Texas was recently chosen by the Dallas Chapter of the National Basketball Retired Players Association to be the beneficiary of their annual golf tournament.

This is the second year they have been chosen for this honor, and the NCM is deeply appreciative of the NBRPA's ongoing commitment to uplifting the local community and supporting individuals and families in need. It seems there is a running theme in this week's newsletter - organizations working together with other nonprofits or corporate partners to strengthen our communities...

We love to see it!

Children In Need, Inc.

Children in Need, Inc. in Hagerstown, Maryland had a huge helping hand from JLG Industries over the past few weeks. More than 20 JLG interns spent time sorting clothing, organizing donations, and supporting the organization’s mission of serving local children living in poverty. Children in Need says that the assistance JLG provides is a true reminder of what the power of community partnership looks like in action. This is another awesome example of how "teamwork makes the dream work!"

Topic of the Week!

Our topic of the week goes hand in hand with my article in Nonprofit Pro about being strategic with your strategic planning. Beware of the dreaded mission creep... Make sure you're asking yourselves whether your goals are a match for your mission, or whether they just "go with" you mission.
