WAVES at the 2024 TAAF Heritage Month Summit

On May 2-3, 2024, The Asian American Foundation (TAAF) kicked off AANHPI Heritage Month and celebrated its third anniversary with the Third Annual TAAF Heritage Month Summit. This highly celebrated event brought together trailblazers, leaders, and advocates for conversations about urgent issues facing the AANHPI community. This year’s theme “Together We Build Power” celebrates our collective power and amplifies our efforts in creating impactful, lasting change across all industries including business, government, law, media, education and health care.

UCA President Haipei Shue, UCA WAVES Executive Director Lily Chen, Program Director Laura Liu, and Advisory Board Chair Justin Chen attended the Summit. They held productive discussions with many partners and were excited to learn about many inspiring new developments in the AANHPI nonprofit and advocacy space. They looked forward to sharing these learnings with the WAVES team.

Apply for Community Showcase

Just like in previous conferences, we'll be hosting the Mental Health Community Showcase, the Chinese Community Organizations Showcase, and the AAPI Youth Organizations Showcase during the event.

This is a rare opportunity for Chinese community organizations, AAPI youth groups, and Chinese mental health organizations to showcase their work, achievements, and events on a national platform, expanding their influence, attracting resources, and seeking growth.

Due to limited space and venue capacity, we can only accommodate 60-70 organization booths. Therefore, we urge organizations from all over to act quickly and fill out the application form to register. The deadline for registration is May 31st.

Organizations participating in the showcase will need to pay a $50 booth fee. The showcase is for nonprofit organizations and youth groups only. For business, please refer to convention sponsorship. We will review the applications submitted and notify everyone promptly about the specific details of participation.

This is the 45th interview Changfu did for the film. He has traveled across the country to interview and film many subjects over the past three years. A rough cut of the film will be screened to invited thought leaders at our Summit in Washington DC.

How Stigma Affects Mental Health in the AAPI Community

Asian American Pacific Islander communities are one of the least likely to seek help for mental health issues. We need a diverse workforce to bridge the gap.

On May 8th, UCA WAVES Executive Director Lily Chen will speak to the Asian American employees at Lenovo Co. in Morrisville, NC at the invitation by NAMI North Carolina. She has also been invited by University of Nebraska Medical Center to speak on a webinar of the same topic.
