Saturday marks the start of Black History Month. Celebrate the occasion at two happenings Sunday, including the FREE African American Children’s Book Fair at the Community College of Philadelphia. Featuring bestselling authors and illustrators and kids’ activities, it’s one of the oldest and largest events of its kind. Over at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the People, Places, Paintings Family Festival includes a painting party to make works inspired by Horace Pippin. Plus, the National Constitution Center kicks off a month of related programming this weekend.

Slip a little summer into this chilly week with the opening of the FREEGetaway at the Greenhouse in Philly’s Fairmount Park. From Friday through Feb. 15, the Horticultural Center greenhouse plays host to nature-based storytimes, open play, a zoo on wheels, musical performances and kids’ activities. Plus, evenings offer food, drinks and entertainment for adults.
