Be sure to check out last year's February Activity Guides
"Embracing Self-Love & Black Joy"!

Last year, we launched the "Heart & Heritage: Embracing Self-Love & Black Joy" activity guides. These engaging resources are designed for parents and early educators to nurture self-worth, cultural pride, and confidence through meaningful activities. By fostering self-love early, we empower our children to embrace their unique identities and shine with joy and resilience.

Explore these fun and educational activities with your child (ages 0-5 and 6-8). We'd love to see photos of how you are celebrating Black joy! Send photos to info@bcdiatlanta.org.

Celebrating Literacy and Heritage through Video Story Reads

At BCDI-Atlanta, we are dedicated to ensuring every child sees themselves reflected in the books they read through our Read To Succeed program. Representation matters, and so does a great story. Each month, we’ll be featuring a special Black Video Story Read in our newsletter, shining a spotlight on the incredible work of brilliant Black authors and their vibrant stories. Our goal is to bring these vibrant stories directly to your home to inspire the next generation of readers. We invite you and your little ones to watch, listen, and celebrate the magic of diverse storytelling together.

This month, we are featuring Miles’ Stuffy Nose, a book that won a 2021 Mom's Choice Award. The author, Janice Robinson-Celeste, is from Austell, Georgia, and is a celebrated figure in early childhood development. She is a parent educator, a former daycare owner, a published author, and an early childhood specialist. In addition to Miles’ Stuffy Nose, she also wrote BIG Kid: For When You’re Feeling Small In A BIG, BIG World. Janice Robinson-Celeste is also the owner of Ethnic Animations and the publisher of Successful Black Parenting magazine.

Have you ever tried to teach a toddler to blow their nose? Miles’ Stuffy Nose helps toddlers learn to do just that! Miles is a toddler who doesn’t know how to blow his nose. He seeks advice from his family members. He continues to get advice while using his imagination to be all of the things his family suggests until finally, with the help of his sister, he succeeds. For more information about Janice Robinson-Celeste, visit Successful Black Parenting. To purchase the book Miles' Stuffy Nose, please go to Itasca Books.
