Writing the Next Chapter for

Canal Street Together

Greetings!

It's been a fabulous year so far - and we're still going!

Looking back over 2025, we are amazed at the response to our first major goal - inviting families to come back to Canal Street. To accomplish that we sponsored eight public events on Canal Street. By all accounts and data from Downtown Development District, we succeeded. Thank you for your support in making this possible. Stay with us as we move into the next phase of Celebrate Canal.

A Saints-sational Season-Opener Celebration on Canal

Our most recent public event, the Saints Pre-Game Season-Opener Party was so much fun that we resolve to do it again! Our fabulous host, The Saint Hotel, rolled out the red carpet for us as we shared delicious food, an open bar, a brass band (Brass-a-holics) followed by a ride to the Dome in a hop-on, hop-off bus (Thank you City Sightseeing!). Special thanks to Lauren Gusanders and Wander On for leading the planning and implementation of this great idea.

Quarterly Meeting at the Astor Crowne Plaza – Nov. 13

Mark your calendars and plan to attend our next Celebrate Canal Quarterly Meeting on Thursday, November 13th. It has been our pleasure to host each of our quarterly meetings at a different exciting venue on Canal Street and we will continue to do this. On November 13th, we will talk about our next phase of Celebrate Canal – Go Big on Canal. We will share with you how we arrived at the Vision for Canal Street. We need your support to help us move forward with this vision. We will also share updates, ideas and upcoming events!

Keynote Speaker at Quarterly Meeting - Walt Leger

We’re elated to announce that Walt Leger, President and CEO of New Orleans & Company, will be our guest speaker. Walt brings a deep knowledge of tourism, economic development, and the city’s future growth. We are anxious to hear his insights on how Canal Street’s revitalization ties into the broader success of New Orleans.

Spreading the Word with Astor!

We’re thrilled that the Astor Crowne Plaza, our gracious host for the Q4 Coalition Meeting, is sharing this invitation on their email lists. Their support helps us reach even more community members and partners. Together, we’re building momentum and spreading the word far and wide!

Bring Celebrate Canal! to Your Group

Celebrate Canal is looking for speaking opportunities right here in New Orleans. Big steps are being taken to return Canal Street to the once thriving, pedestrian-friendly corridor and we are excited to share these plans with you.

While the response to Celebrate Canal has been overwhelming, and we are gratified by your continued positive comments to us, we know that we must maintain this momentum.

In this phase of Celebrate Canal, we are making the rounds speaking to as many clubs and organizations as possible to share the story, vision, and progress! If you are part of a club, civic group, business association or neighborhood organization, Celebrate Canal! would like to hear from you.

Our team can tailor a presentation to cover your meeting dates, times and locations – it does not matter to us the size of your group – we are there for you.

In order to make our next phase successful, we will need the continued support of the people of New Orleans. Please reach out—we’d be thrilled to join you.

This month, we’re excited to shine a spotlight on Greg Tillery of We Dat’s Chicken & Shrimp as our Friends of Celebrate Canal honoree! Greg is more than a restaurant owner—he’s a community builder whose energy, generosity, and commitment have made a lasting mark on Canal Street.

We Dat’s has become a downtown favorite not only for its bold flavors but also for the spirit of connection it brings. Greg is known for giving back—supporting local events, mentoring young entrepreneurs, and lending his voice and resources to causes that strengthen New Orleans. His leadership continues to inspire, and his passion for the city is evident in everything he does.

We’re grateful to Greg for helping to make Canal Street a more vibrant, welcoming place for all. Whether you’re a longtime fan or stopping in for the first time, a visit to We Dat’s is more than a great meal—it’s an experience filled with hospitality, pride, and community spirit.

Saints Event Recap

On Saturday, September 7th, Celebrate Canal! hosted a spirited Saints Season Kickoff Event that brought the community together to cheer on our home team and support the revitalization of Canal Street. From there, the party hit the streets as we second lined all the way to the Superdome with the help of the Hop-On Hop-Off buses.

It was pure joy — we sang, we danced, and we celebrated together, showing just how special this city and Canal Street can be when the community comes alive.

This event was a true team effort — special thanks to our sponsors, partners, and volunteers whose support made the day a success.

We are excited to build on this momentum as we continue working toward our vision of a vibrant, welcoming Canal Street that everyone can enjoy year-round.
