Celebrate Canal! Keeps Rolling!

Hello Katelyn,

Thank you for joining us at our June events! Together, we’re building a powerful coalition committed to restoring Canal Street as a Grand Boulevard—one that offers something for everyone!

Celebrate Canal! is driven by two major goals. First, we aim to generate strong public support for revitalizing Canal Street by hosting engaging events that bring families and residents back to this iconic corridor. We want Canal Street to once again be top-of-mind for New Orleanians—and we can’t achieve that without broad community enthusiasm.

So far, we’ve seen incredible momentum through initiatives like Windows on Canal, the Children’s Scavenger Hunt, and our Art & Architecture Tour. And we’re just getting started!

This July, we’re thrilled to partner with New Orleans Magazine for a Canal Street edition of their annual Scavenger Hunt, running from July 1–31. It’s a great way to explore Canal Street, snap some photos, and win prizes—more details are included below.

Our second, longer-term goal is to develop a comprehensive Action Plan for Canal Street. This plan will be presented to real estate developers, property owners, urban planners, market researchers, political leaders, and other key stakeholders. It will outline five major projects, attractions, or flagship stores to anchor a renewed Canal Street.

We’re building this Action Plan on the foundation of two exceptional studies—one from the Downtown Development District and one from the City Planning Commission. At our upcoming Community Meetings, we’ll share highlights from those reports and invite your input through collaborative group discussions.

Thank you for being part of this journey—we can’t wait to see what we’ll accomplish together.

🎉 Fun fact from Ryan 🎉

Canal Street and the Mississippi River are the two points of origin for the addressing system in New Orleans.

For example, if you are in the 2400 block of Canal Street, this means you are 24 blocks from the river. If you are in the 1800 block of Bienville Avenue, you are 18 blocks from the river.

By comparison, if you are in the 2900 block of Saint Charles Avenue, this means you a 29 blocks from Canal Street

We’re so lucky to have had two incredible photographers capturing the energy, color, and magic of Canal Street throughout our journey—Chris Granger and David Mora. Their talent and dedication have helped tell our story through stunning images that celebrate the people and places that make this corridor so special. Thank you both for helping us see Canal through a whole new lens! 📸
