“Warm” and “cozy”—these are the words Diane and Jerry Forbes use to describe their experience at Transplant House. From the moment she walked through our doors, Diane knew this was somewhere special. While she underwent a double lung transplant, she found comfort in knowing her husband had a home-like place to stay nearby. That peace of mind allowed her to fully focus on her surgery. Today, she is deeply grateful for the second chance at life she’s been given.

During April, we celebrate Donate Life Month in honor of the selfless donors who make stories like Diane’s possible. Because of the generosity of organ donors, the work of our partners at Lifebanc, one donor can save up to eight lives—a powerful reminder of the impact of giving the gift of life. 💙💚

NEW: Transplant Together Program

We are excited to launch Transplant Together, a new monthly caregiver–patient support group. The group will meet in-person as well as virtually via zoom. Sessions will be led alternately by a post-transplant patient and a caregiver and facilitated by our staff Social Worker, Jennifer Pitsenbarger. This group is designed to provide connection, shared experience, and support for both patients and caregivers throughout the transplant journey.

On Thursday, we said goodbye to Edward and his caregiver, Amylyn! After almost 7 weeks and a double lung transplant, they headed home to New York. We admire Edward’s humor and infectious energy that has brought so much light to our community. After having pulmonary fibrosis, he is thriving and building his strength each day. We wish them the best of luck as they begin this next chapter.

We hold deep gratitude for Edward’s donor and keep their family in our hearts. Their selfless “yes” made this milestone possible. Because of that extraordinary gift, Edward has been given another chance at life– and the impact of their generosity cannot be overstated.
