Reduce - Through waste reduction and prevention, you can use less material to get a job done. One of the easiest ways to reduce waste is by cutting back on what you consume daily, including energy, water, and solid waste. Learn how to watch what you buy with our easy guidelines here.
Reuse - By reusing products and packaging, it prolongs the useful life of materials, thus delaying final disposal or recycling. This can include getting creative and reusing what you already have for new, innovative purposes or donating your gently used items to a local charity. For ideas and charity locations, click here.

Hunting for Recyclables on Easter
|
|
After the eggs have been found and baskets dispersed, you may be finding that this holiday can generate quite a bit of waste. Foil wrappers, egg cartons, plastic eggs, and decorations: how should they be handled once the festivities are over? We've compiled a short list of common Easter items and how you can dispose of them properly on this fun-filled holiday.
-
Foil Wrappers: Individually, the foil wrappers that your Easter candy often comes in are too small to be recycled and should be placed with your household garbage, as they would not make it through the sorting process at the facility. However, these small wrappers can be combined with other aluminum foil you may be recycling; combine the individual wrappers together to see what size ball you can make. If it's the size of a golf ball (or larger), toss it in with your recycling.
-
Candy Containers: If it's only made of paper, it's recyclable. Any rigid plastics that come with a chocolate bunny or other Easter candy are only accepted by RRRASOC if they are marked on the bottom with #1, #2, or #4 - #7. No expanded polystyrene #6 (foam).
-
Egg Cartons: This depends on the materials it is made from. If made from paper or plastic (for plastic egg cartons, check the numbers [see above] on the bottom to see if it is acceptable), they are generally accepted in your recycling. Expanded polystyrene #6 (foam) egg cartons are not recyclable with RRRASOC and should be placed in the trash.
-
Decorations: Items such as plastic eggs, Easter grass, and baskets are not recyclable. If your decorations are only gently used, please consider saving them to reuse next year or donate them to a local secondhand store.
