Earth Day.

The Compost Challenge is back for a limited time in honor of Earth day and leading up to Compost Awareness week!

The Challenge will be open from April 22 - May 7 or until supplies last and only open to residents of our service area (one per household).*

To receive a free compost bin you must: 1.Watch the compost workshop videos, 2. Take the Quiz, 3. Pledge to Compost, and 4. Arrange pick up of your FREE compost bin by May 7 or at Natividad Creek Park on May 8th (see below).

*Available only to new participants. Unfortunately if you already received a free bin you are not eligible to receive another one during this time

Compost Challenge details

Everything we are, we owe to mother earth and her resources. The wood used to build our houses, the glass in our windows, and the plastic that makes up our water bottles all come from the resources we have on earth.

Earth Day workshops and events

"Restore our Earth" is this year's theme for Earth Day on April 22. You can celebrate by finding a local event or join one of many virtual offerings. The fun will kick off as early as April 18 for some online events. Check out the links for workshops, festivals, and other engaging opportunities.

The Need To Grow Free Movie Screening and Discussion

SVR will be hosting a community discussion on Monday May 3rd from 6-7pm to talk about local impacts and get inspired by panelists who will share what they are doing to help restore the earth and how you can too!

Are you Ready for International Compost Awareness Week?

International Compost Awareness Week (ICAW) is the largest and most comprehensive education initiative of the compost industry. It is celebrated nationwide and in other countries each year during the first full week of May.

TREATED WOOD WASTE (TWW) IS ACCEPTED AT ALL SALINAS VALLEY RECYCLES LOCATIONS

As of March 17, 2021, Salinas Valley Recycles has received variances from the Department of Toxic Substance Control for all facilities to accept TWW for disposal. TWW must be Separated from Other Materials

We're featured on BioCycle!

We have been working hard behind the scene for several years to meet new state regulations to divert food scraps and other organics from landfill disposal and produce compost for beneficial reuse. Our hard work is paying off and we are on track to meet compliance deadlines for our member agencies.
