A Word From Our Past

You cannot make this sort of thing up. This week Emilee was cleaning out a file cabinet and discovered this letter behind the drawer. This letter was written nearly 70 years ago. Who knows when or how it ended up fallen behind the file cabinet drawer. This is a powerful letter written by Gladys and J.B. Smith.

Rev. J.B. Smith served as associate pastor at Perry UMC for many years, and he brought so many newcomers to our church through his habit of driving around Perry every day looking for moving trucks! In fact, just a few weeks ago we enjoyed a Salt & Light video testimony from Bob Messer who mentioned this very fact! The Messers aren’t the only family who worships at Perry because of an invitation from Brother J.B. I never knew J.B. or Gladys, but I was very touched and inspired by this letter.

As Easter Sunday approaches, I hope we will remember the witness and example of folks like Gladys and J.B. And if you see a moving truck with someone unloading boxes, maybe pull over and ask if they need help moving in. Oh, and see if they have a church!

Bring Your Flowers for the

Cross This Sunday!

Every year we bring flowers to the church on Easter Sunday and deck out the cross with springtime's finest flowers! Bring your flowers THIS SUNDAY! These can be store bought flowers or garden flowers! Let's make our cross beautiful while we celebrate the resurrection of our Savior!

We are compiling a prayer list that will be posted in the Eblast each week. Prayers can be submitted on our website here or emailed to Emilee here. If you would prefer that your prayer request not be publicized, please note this when you submit your request.

We want to surround each other with prayer and love when needed.

Easter Flower Volunteers

We are looking for a few people who are willing to serve at the cross and stand for the 9 a.m., 10 a.m., or 11 a.m. hours and help put flowers on the cross. We will have a ladder next to the cross, the volunteer will help place flowers on the upper parts that can only be reached with a ladder.

If you are willing to help. Sign up here.

This Sunday! Jesus is Risen and So Are Our Children!

Our Children’s Ministry is moving out of the Backporch this Sunday to their new

Sunday School rooms! Check out the map above for your child's new room and join us at 10 a.m. on Sunday as we celebrate the resurrection of our Savior!

Important Staff Update

I am sorry to announce that Rob Tavalero, our Facilities Supervisor for the past several years, has resigned from Perry UMC. We are sad to see Rob go because he has served this church so well. Rob was always quick to jump in and tackle whatever task was needed at the moment, big or small.  During the pandemic when our church was shut down, Rob was here doing needed work so that when we opened back up we were better than ever. I’ll never forget when we had a hard freeze and pipes burst such that we had a waterfall coming from the Education Bldg 2nd floor next to the nursery, Rob showed up, found the problem, and was able to fix it himself, saving our church from much greater damage and what would have been an expensive repair bill.  We don’t have space to list the ways Rob has helped our church over these years, always wanting us to be able to do great ministry the Lord was calling us to do. Please keep Rob in your prayers as he begins a new chapter, and also because his mother passed away a few days ago in California. Please lift up Rob and his entire family in your prayers. Please keep our leadership in your prayers as we navigate this transition and look for someone to join our team.

PMA Holy Week Service at PUMC

We hosted the Perry Ministerial Association's Holy Week Service on Monday, March 25. Rev. Dennis Harden of New Hope Baptist was AMAZING. Lunch was awesome! Special thanks to Buddy Roper and all our volunteers for making lunch delicious and fun!

Special Thanks to the Sweetest

Volunteer of our Holy Week Event!

We are extremely thankful to each of our volunteer to who helped prepare and serve lunch. We couldn't do it without each of you! One volunteer stood out during our event. Two year old Dax Carruth (he's three now) worked hard to help clear tables, carry table cloths, and even helped put away our battery powered candles and decor with out being asked. It was so sweet to see his servants heart at such a young age. God is truly good.
