The funds raised are critical - they support teacher salaries, the athletic trainer, library, grants to clubs, and so much more. [Images of club posters that students made for prospective students tour]

Update on 2026-27 School Budget

As Assistant Principal Ida Acton mentioned in her weekly email on Feb. 27, district budget cuts combined with lower enrollment projections for Garfield next year have led to reductions in the staffing allocation to Garfield for 2026-27. Garfield’s leadership team is working hard to explore every possible avenue to preserve funding, and the PTSA has agreed to provide a $250,000 grant to help pay for staff positions that would otherwise be cut. But even with these steps, Garfield will be losing staff next year. The two most important things that families can do to help mitigate staff reductions are:

  1. Help increase our enrollment. Many families incorrectly assume that if they don’t live in the Garfield zone, their student won’t be able to enroll. A change in SPS policy for next year means that Garfield does have space for new students in every grade in 2026-27 if families submit their School Choice application by the March 31 deadline. See below for more details and please help spread the word!
  2. Contribute to the PTSA and attend our fundraiser this Saturday (see article above) to help us reduce the amount of our net loss this year (currently forecast to be -$160,000). While we still have some limited cash reserves, the need to fund GHS staff positions in the past few years has led to multi-year deficits and our current level of support is not sustainable. We anticipate that the next few years of SPS’s budget crisis will be the time when PTSA funds are most needed, and contributions from families are essential.

Garfield is Enrolling New Students!

For the first time in years, SPS is enrolling new students from outside the Garfield attendance area without restrictions other than Garfield’s capacity (and we have space)!

March 31 is the last day to submit a late Open Enrollment for School Choice application.

Good news! All students who have applied have been admitted. There is NO waitlist.
