Help us Celebrate Glenwild Day!
(Actually we'll celebrate the whole weekend, from 4/22, Earth Day, through Sunday 4/24).
In 2013, our town council honored us for our 85th anniversary and designated April 23rd as "Glenwild Garden Center Day". We continue to celebrate this day each year by showing our appreciation to our community on 4/23. As a thank you for all your continued support, please stop in and enjoy the following:
-
Buy 10 bags of any Mulch, get 1 Free
-
Azaleas & Andromeda Sale--20% off all weekend
- Refreshments
- Free Earth Day Giveaway on Friday--Milkweed Seeds. Feed the Pollinators! (While supplies last)
- Free Glenwild Giveaway on Saturday--with any purchase, we have a little gift for you at the register. (While supplies last)
Overflow parking is either across from the propane tank, down the hill in front of the barn, or even on the side of the driveway going up the hill next to our entrance. Thanks for your patience.

Use our new Plant Finder to help you choose the best plants for your garden!
Click on the link above to see the new Plant Finder on our website.
There may be a few kinks, so read carefully. (There are a few tropical ferns in the evergreen tree section because they're tropical in Florida--things like that. We'll get that settled soon though.) In the meantime you can make your own plant list and print it out--very cool!
This tool is an online resource representing many of the varieties that we carry over the course of the season, and is meant for informational purposes only. Inventory varies seasonally, so we cannot guarantee that every plant will be in stock at all times - please COME IN for current availability. We cannot answer every inventory question over the phone. It also does not include our entire selection of plants, (veggie plants are not listed for instance), so be sure to visit our store to see varieties that may not be on this list.

Late April To-Dos:
- This is prime Lawn Care time--improve your soil and grass with Jonathan Green products. See the paragraph below for details.
- Add compost to your garden beds
- Seed sowing- you can start tomatoes, peppers etc. indoors before May 1
- Direct sow (seeds go right in the ground) Peas, spinach, radishes, etc.
- Any vegetable and herb plants we have outside can be planted in the ground
- Buy row covers for chilly nights
- Fertilize perennial and shrub beds now with a slow release organic fertilizer
- You can still prune some late summer flowering shrubs like panicle Hydrangeas (the ones that bloom usually white, in August).
Click here for a seed sowing guide for the northeast. This is still a perfect time for starting your tomatoes & eggplant seeds indoors, and your spinach & peas directly into the ground.
Now is one of the most exciting times for the gardener. Seeing the little sprouts coming out of the ground can lift your spirits on a 'down' day. Perennial gardening is one of my favorite passions, and it's exciting now too because of all the amazing new perennials coming in! Come check them out if you love new plants like I do. Hope to see you soon!

Lawn Care Time
-
Thatch your lawn-this means rake out all the dead grass and roots.
- Now is a perfect time to raise your soil pH with Mag-i-cal--a magnesium/calcium product or lime substitute. It works faster than traditional lime and it ends up costing much less, and there is much less volume needed.
- Love Your Soil. Its actually a product that works similarly to compost, but easier to apply. It will REALLY improve your soil, which is vital to a healthy, good-looking lawn.
- Re-seed, or seed a new lawn now.
- We recommend Jonathan Green Organic Fertilizer, though we do carry the conventional versions.
- Do NOT use any chemical on your lawn unless its necessary! This includes fertilizer, fungicides, herbicides & pesticides. We can help you determine if it is needed at all. Organic fertilizers DO work, some weeds are okay, some insects are okay, maybe the fungus is from something else you can change. Save money and time by only using what you need. Do we sound crazy to try to not sell you something? We are all trying to 'save the planet', right? Chemicals have a place in our lives, but like an antibiotic, you do not want to use them preventively. Ask us if you're confused. :)
