Celebrate God's gifts!
The Arkive: Ark and Dove's Newsletter
Celebrate God's gifts this Sunday
at both the 9:30 (choir led) and 11:00 (band led) services!
Message from Pastor Jon
Dear Friends and Members of Ark and Dove,

It seems that God is doing something new. Can you feel it? There is a sense that we are at a new beginning. It is an odd sensation, as I look out my office window to see not budding leaves, but browning leaves breaking from their branches.

And yet, there is the incessant pounding of the hammer around our building reminding me that our church is getting a new shell. There are two new music directors ready to sing a new song with us. ACT's steering committee met for the first time since it's launch, energized with a fresh spirit of justice for our county. New members are joining the church. We are exploring a novel approach to stewardship in our congregation. God is doing something new.

In just a few short weeks, we will begin another church year, as Advent begins on December 2nd. This year we are focusing on some of the famous songs of the Bible, the songs that anticipate the coming of Christ. On December 9th at 4 pm, mark your calendars because we are having an Advent party. We invite you to come and decorate Christmas cookies and ornaments while musicians play and then lead us in some Christmas tunes.

Even as the leaves fall and the calendar year comes to an end, we are at a beginning. Come and join us in all that is new here at Ark and Dove. Bring friends and be generous as we enter a new season. My prayer is that you too experience a new beginning with God here at the end of this year.

Peace,
Jon

Verse and Prayer
Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain.
-Psalm 127:1
We are grateful, O God, for our church building and for the many gifts that support it and make it new. You have gathered us into this building and you have built us up as your people. Strengthen the bond of our community and remind us that you are our foundation. As we have raised up walls and secured roofing, we know that your are our true shelter. As we have invested in the structure of our house, we know that we must invest in the fabric of our community. Encourage us to be a people always welcoming others into our sacred space. Empower us to be a people willing to serve others who have no safe place. Amen.
Notes for you!
Wendy Wellington will be singing a solo piece called “Grace” as our prelude. We will also have a beautiful arrangement of Richard Nance’s “Set Me As a Seal” as our anthem. Brian Boudreau will be playing the French horn with the choir. You won’t want to miss these opportunities to rejoice in God’s gifts!

Joyfully,

Dorene

I am so thrilled and humbled to chosen as the Director of Contemporary Music at Ark and Dove. Thank you so much for your support, and to the members who served on the selection committee. Lots of time was devoted to the search process. I have always felt so welcome at Ark and Dove after leading worship as a band member, and now I am so honored and blessed to be the director of such a wonderful group and congregation. I look forward, very much, to learning from Pastor Tim and Pastor Jon to improve my abilities, working with our new Director of Music, and continue adding to our welcoming community. Please don't hesitate to reach out to me if you have interest in joining the band, music ministries, song ideas for service, music lessons, and anything else you might like to discuss together! Thank you!

God bless!

Is the Bible really relevant to us?
Sunday Study
Racism and sexism continue to plague our society. After the 11 am service, we are talking about race and sex in the Bible. Kim Champagne ( kim.champagne@gmail.com ) and Pastor Jon ( jgnelson1985@gmail.com ) will lead the discussion and offer some ways we can confront these issues as we read Scripture. We are following Jonathan L. Walton's "A Lens of Love," which is a helpful primer for reading the Bible. Come as you are.
