It's that time of year where literally time flies. First it's September than the next thing you know it's Christmas. But just for a second let's slow it down.....
September was such a whirlwind month for us. Let's start with....
We won! A BIG thanks to everyone who voted for us because we won our category for the Ontario Choice Awards! We are... The Top Small Museum/Art Gallery/Historic Site for all of Ontario. I cannot tell you what this means to us and Downtown Kingston. We hope it means that through the dark cold winter you will still come to see what a fabulous DT we have and that we have the best Gallery in Canada (ok... at least all of Ontario) for Canadian made art & craft. Truly an Honour.
Next we had Art After Dark this past Friday and again we were truly astounded as we had over 200 people come through our doors. to see all the beautiful art & craft we have, to celebrate our win and to celebrate me owning the store for 5 years now. I am beyond grateful for all the support. We celebrated with cake and music and snacks! Shout out to the Kingston Olive Oil Company who always provides the oil and balsamic vinegar for our event. They are truly amazing and sooo many people ask us where we get the oil and vinegar from. Truly a pleasure to say, "Right around the corner!". There are so many people to thank for events like this. So a big thank you to staff past & present who came out to say hi. Thank you to Lisa our manager & JL our book keeper for doing such an amazing job of managing and keeping all the numbers straight. (On a good day I add one & one & get two...) Thank you to my daughter Elysha for driving 3 hours one way to surprise me and then have to drive another 5 hours back the next day for a meeting. And thanks to everyone who came out just because. We so appreciate it.
Last Sunday we had a Zentangle class with 2 very lovely and enthusiastic ladies. I am so happy that I get to teach people about Zentangle and that it helps people to focus their attention and for a few minutes so the rest of the world and all the worries melt away. If you are interested in having an experience like that, let us know and I will be happy to teach you all about it.
We have a new featured artist whom we are quite proud... Our very own Rachel Acardi has done some amazing work and is our featured artist for October. Please pop on by to see her lovely work.
There are still 1 or 2 spaces left for the Marissa Sweet Acrylic Paint Class. If you ever wanted to paint with an award winning artist now is your chance! Marissa, like her name, is SWEET! You do not need to know how to paint so don't be shy if painting is something you have always wanted to try. She will guide you with grace and humour through each step. I do not paint but have taken several classes with her and had a great time and brought home something new and creative! Call the store at 613-546-7967 to register.
An on to new business....
We have 2 new artists and for all the ladies you will be happy because they are jewellery artists! RW Studios and My Wristy Business have their work at the store. We are excited as they represent Canada in in wonderful but very different ways.
For those of you who like to get organized early, we have a variety of Calendars for 2020 (I can't believe I am even writing that for a year... seems like it was just 1999 and we were all told to panic over the Y2K virus that would take out computers all over the world...). There are Calendars from Ola Design, Cape Dorset, and several Indigenous artists. All are gorgeous!
We are also excited because we have the second annual Great Pumpkin Search" coming up. The event will be held the Saturday before Hallowe'en on October 26 from 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM. Keep a watch out for emails, and the newspapers for directions. The idea is to visit all participating establishments and find the "Great Pumpkin" to get an entry for the gift basket. Fun for everyone!
Lastly, a few words to remind ourselves to be kind to each other and to ourselves. We cannot control the actions of other people, we can only control how we respond. And that can make a big difference in the outcome of any situation, especially an unpleasant one. Look for the silver lining because most of the time there is a positive takeaway or a lesson to be learned that will help us move the ball forward. Have a great October everyone!
From our heart to yours,
Penny & the staff at cornerstone
