CALL TO ACTION FOR ALL SECOND AMENDMENT SUPPORTERS!
Please forward
Town of St. Joseph Hall, 1337 County Road V, Hudson, WI 54016
IT IS VERY IMPORTANT to attend the July 8, Thursday, Town of St. Joseph Board of Supervisors meeting at 6:00 p.m. The Draft Second Amendment Resolution is expected to be on the agenda. Below is an e-mail circulated by the opposition. Recently, the Wisconsin Legislature approved a Second Amendment Sanctuary Bill. There may not be enough votes to override the Governor's anticipated veto, which makes LOCAL government action even more important to pass Second Amendment Sanctuary Resolutions.
It is very important to get this message to as many like-minded Town of St. Joseph residents as soon as possible. Please ask them to call and e-mail the Town of St. Joseph Chair Theresa Johnson chair@townofstjoseph.com 715-222-6235 and other supervisors listed below to request a copy of the Town Attorney Draft of the Second Amendment Sanctuary Resolution and make their thoughts on the matter known. We need to show the Board of Supervisors there are more residents in the Town of St. Joseph that support this resolution than there are opposed via calls and e-mails. Though the Chair may restrict comments to residents only at the meeting, your presence to support us in this, resident or not, is still very powerful.

Subject: St. Joseph Township 2nd Amendment Sanctuary Resolution
Good Evening St. Joseph Residents,
I wanted to keep you all in the loop regarding the happenings of the St. Joseph Town Board. I received your email from others who thought you may be interested in knowing the following information.
As a resident, I am concerned that the St. Joseph Board is taking up divisive and political topics such as the recent 2nd Amendment Sanctuary Resolution.
Summary of events:
- On June 10, 2021 Supervisor Darla Meyers presented a 2nd Amendment Sanctuary Resolution to the Town Board for discussion. Ms. Meyers had previously notified her friends from out of town to be present at the meeting to support her resolution. Only a few residents were aware of the agenda item. The item was opened up for discussion to those in the audience. Some individuals brought their firearms to the meeting. Individuals from all over the county and State commented on if St. Joseph should have approve this resolution. Mostly it was a contingent of individuals and associates of Ms. Meyers from the eastern part of St. Croix County. This group aims to make St. Croix County a 2nd Amendment Sanctuary County and St. Joseph is part of the plan. There were a small number of St. Joseph residents at this meeting that spoke in opposition. The Board voted to revisit the resolution with changes similar to the one passed in Baldwin township at the July 8th meeting.
- On June 22, Chair Theresa Johnson presented a resolution to ban firearms on township property. She reasoned that some of her staff were fearful and some residents contacted her about safety concerns. The resolution was defeated.
- Since then, some St. Joseph Township staff have resigned. St. Joseph residents are upset and have written letters to the supervisors.
- Theresa Johnson, Chair, has indicated that Sheriff Deputies have been contracted to be present at the July 8 meeting to escort those who are disruptive and to help residents feel safe.
On Thursday, July 8th, the Board will be voting on this 2nd Amendment Resolution. It will be important that if you oppose this resolution, please contact the supervisors. Also, there is strength in numbers, show up and attend and have your voice heard.
I oppose this resolution for many reasons but mostly because resolutions like these are political, divisive and reinforces the radicalization of a small but loud segment of our population. When Ms. Meyers presented this resolution she spoke of the "tyranny of government" and our right to "overthrow" a government infringing on her perceived rights. This first draft spoke of how police would not be required to enforce State and Federal firearm laws with the presence of this resolution. The Board attorney spoke at the meeting indicating the resolution as presented had legal issues and would need to be revised. Ms. Meyers is misguided. We have a constitution and our elected officials swear to uphold it. There is no need to support all components of it for "symbolic" reasons. It takes away valuable time from Board business and divides its residents by political grandstanding.
This resolution in addition to the anti-mask resolution Ms. Meyers presented last spring, are how she conducts business as a Town Supervisor. Is this a leader we want guiding our township? Do we want our town board supervisors spending time on divisive, political agendas? We are a growing community with many opportunities and challenges that come with rapid growth. Let's encourage our supervisors to refrain from this type of leadership.
What can you do?
1. Email your town supervisors (see below)
2. Show up for the meeting on July 8th
