An Evening of Community, Music, and Fireworks
For more than 50 years, the City has celebrated Independence Day the Lacey way: bringing our community together for our annual July 3 Fireworks Spectacular (see event details below). It's an evening of fun, tradition, and celebration. This year's event is especially meaningful as our nation marks America 250 — the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. This milestone invites us to reflect on our shared history, celebrate the people and ideals that continue to shape our nation, and look ahead to the future we're building together.
As you celebrate this holiday weekend, I encourage you to do so safely and responsibly. On behalf of the City Council and all of us at the City, thank you for helping make our community such a wonderful place to live, work, and celebrate.
Have a happy, safe, and memorable Independence Day!

Deputy Chief Hollis Earns Statewide Appointment
At the City, we know our greatest strength is our people. This week, we're proud to recognize Deputy Chief Hollis on his appointment by Governor Ferguson to the Washington State Partnership Council on Juvenile Justice (WA-PCJJ), where he will serve through November 2, 2028.
The WA-PCJJ plays an important role in improving outcomes for young people across Washington by advising on policies and programs that strengthen youth justice, promote equitable outcomes, enhance community safety, and support restorative justice statewide.
Deputy Chief Hollis brings more than two decades of law enforcement experience to this statewide leadership role. Since joining the Lacey Police Department as Deputy Chief in 2021, he has demonstrated a strong commitment to public service, community partnerships, and thoughtful leadership. His experience makes him an outstanding representative for both Lacey and our region.
Please join me in congratulating Deputy Chief Hollis on this well-deserved appointment. We are grateful for his continued service to our community and proud to see his expertise recognized at the state level.

REMINDER: No Fireworks in Lacey
The cities of Lacey, Olympia, and Tumwater do not allow anyone to buy, sell, or discharge fireworks.
What Should I Do If I Hear Fireworks in the City Limits?
We get a lot of phone calls about fireworks this time of year.
Because police resources are limited and officers must prioritize emergencies, we encourage community members to report fireworks violations using the non-emergency dispatch line rather than 911. This helps keep emergency lines available for life-threatening situations.
Please call TCOMM’s non-emergency line at 360-704-2740 to report fireworks-related concerns. Dispatchers will route the complaint to the appropriate law enforcement agency. Please reserve 911 for emergencies that threaten life or property, such as a fire caused by fireworks or an injury resulting from the use of fireworks.
NOTE: Public displays (such as our July 3 fireworks event, see information below) are allowed. Small novelty items, such as snakes, glow worms, and party poppers, are also not prohibited.
To learn more, visit our fireworks webpage.
Have a safe holiday!

New Sponsorship Program Creates Opportunities for Businesses and the Community
The City has launched a new sponsorship program in partnership with High Level Promotions, creating opportunities for local businesses to invest in the community and increase their visibility.
The program connects businesses with sponsorship and naming rights opportunities across parks, recreation facilities, athletic venues, events, and community programs. Sponsorship revenue will help fund park improvements, recreation programs, special events, and future community enhancements, providing additional resources without relying solely on taxpayer funding.
"Our goal is to build long-term partnerships that benefit both businesses and the community," said Jennifer Burbidge, Director of Lacey Parks, Culture & Recreation. "Every sponsorship dollar has the potential to enhance the places and programs that make Lacey such a great place to live, work, and play."
Businesses interested in learning more about available sponsorship opportunities are encouraged to email High Level Promotions to explore current and future partnership options.

Plan Ahead: Nighttime I-5 Paving Begins July 6
If you travel on I-5 through south Thurston County, plan for nighttime delays beginning July 6. The Washington State Department of Transportation will repave nearly 7 miles of I-5 between Maytown Road and Old Highway 99, improving the driving surface in both directions.
Drivers can expect nighttime lane reductions, reduced speed limits in work zones, and overnight closures of ramps and rest areas. Travel times may be longer, so allow extra time for your trip. Work schedules are weather-dependent and may change.
WSDOT will update the location and direction of paving crews on its project webpage as it finalizes the schedule.

Summer Burn Ban Takes Effect in Thurston County
Beginning July 8, unincorporated Thurston County will be under a temporary burn ban through at least Oct. 15 to help reduce wildfire risk during the dry summer months.
The ban prohibits residential yard waste burning and land-clearing burns. Recreational campfires are still allowed on private residential properties in unincorporated Thurston County and at official campgrounds, but only when contained within approved fire rings. Charcoal, pellet, gas, and propane grills and barbecues may also continue to be used.
Learn more about the burn ban on the Thurston County website.
| |
Please Note: Outdoor burning of any kind is prohibited within the City of Lacey, including contained backyard firepits. As wildfire danger increases across the region, residents are encouraged to use extra caution with any outdoor activities that could spark a fire and help keep our community safe
