K9 Radar Retires After 10 Years of Service

🎉 Happy Retirement, K9 Radar! 🐾

After more than 10 incredible years of service, K9 Radar has officially retired! Radar served alongside Sgt. O’Reilly from February 2015 to July 2025 as a single-purpose apprehension dog and proud member of the Tactical Negotiations Team (TNT) for his entire career.

In his time on duty, Radar tallied an impressive 119 captures and made countless appearances at community events, winning over fans of all ages. Off-duty, he became a social media favorite for his snack-rating videos filmed from the patrol car with Sgt. O’Reilly. (Pro tip: bananas are not his top pick, but he’ll take one for the team.)

Radar’s legacy is one of dedication, loyalty, and a whole lot of snack reviews. He’s earned every bit of his retirement—and probably a few extra treats, too. 🍖

Project Lifesaver Helps Locate Missing Elderly Man

Thanks to a coordinated response and the help of a Project Lifesaver bracelet, a missing 75-year-old man was safely located after wandering from his home in southwest Portland on July 2.

WCSO deputies, Search and Rescue, multiple K9 teams, and our drone unit worked together to find the man, who had fallen into a ravine and needed assistance. Project Lifesaver technology allowed teams to quickly narrow the search area and reach him before conditions worsened.

The man was safely rescued and taken to the hospital with help from American Medical Response.

This incident highlights the lifesaving power of Project Lifesaver, part of the Sheriff’s Office Elders Safe Program, which helps protect community members with cognitive conditions who are at risk of wandering.
