We are thrilled to invite you to the Good Character Gala, an evening dedicated to celebrating service, leadership, and integrity, core values that shape our communities and define Scouting.

The Good Character Gala is more than a celebration; it’s an invitation to change young lives. This signature evening honors leaders who embody courage, service, and commitment to community — the very qualities Scouting works to instill in every young person we serve.

This year, we are proud to recognize LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell for his extraordinary contributions to public safety and the community.

“Chief McDonnell has served as a law enforcement leader for more than four decades. Regardless of the organization—LAPD, LA County Sheriff's, Long Beach PD, or USC—his community engagement, commitment to youth, and support for Scouting have remained steadfast. Chief McDonnell is a deserving recipient, and it is a pleasure to honor him for his service, leadership, and commitment to our youth.”

— Phillip L. Sanchez, Ret. Pasadena Police Chief and Board Member,

Mission First: People Always

Even if Scouting is new to you, you know the importance of preparing young people for life. Your support at the Good Character Gala will ensure that youth from every neighborhood — regardless of circumstance — have access to the leadership training, outdoor adventures, and character-building experiences that shape confident, capable adults.

Greater Los Angeles Scouting serves more than 10,000 youth across one of the most diverse and dynamic regions in the country. We believe every child deserves the chance to discover their potential, develop strong leadership skills, and grow into a person of character — regardless of their background or financial circumstances.

Through year-round programs, outdoor adventures, and community service, Scouts build confidence, resilience, and a lifelong commitment to serving others. We intentionally reach youth in under-resourced communities, removing financial barriers so every child can participate.

Our Impact Last Year:

  • 10,000+ youth served across Los Angeles County
  • 70% of Scouts from diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds
  • 35% participation from families with limited financial means
  • 100,000+ hours of community service completed by Scouts
  • More than 500 youth are achieving Scouting’s highest ranks and leadership awards

When you support the Good Character Gala, you are investing in programs that prepare the next generation of leaders — young people ready to lead with courage, kindness, and integrity.

Support us on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at the Omni Los Angeles Hotel for an inspiring evening that combines purpose with celebration. Together, we can honor a community hero and open the door to life-changing opportunities for thousands of local youth.
