Honoring a mother with a preschool
Cordelia Chang of California, who had in the past visited our projects with our Travel with Purpose wanted to honor her mother, Eleanor Soong Chang, who recently died at the extraordinary age of 103. We urgently needed to have one of the community preschools in a new district rebuilt as it wasn’t safe, so Cordelia dedicated $5,000 in her mother’s name.

When we found out that there was one more in dire need, Cordelia generously doubled the funds for another preschool in the name of her father, Warren W. S. Chang.

Thank you, Cordelia
for your $10,000 donation
so that 60 little munchkins
will now be able to attend.

If you are interested in donating funds for a new preschool in name of your mother, please get in touch. We are expanding our teacher training program and upgrading facilities and supplies in another area. Please contact : jenni@theccdo.org
Rotary Club of Sentosa, Singapore repairs
Our wonderful Rotarians stepped up to the plate again, this time with $5,000 to repair seven of the existing preschools and furnish them with playgrounds and a new paint job.

We realized that many of the haphazardly constructed preschools are not very functional and susceptible to rain damages.

We reached out to our favorite partner architect in Singapore, Chu Yang Keng of IX Architects, Ltd Pte, and asked if he could help design a model preschool. He immediately came back with wonderful news of 10 colleagues who are interested in the project and will help design a model preschool that is functional and affordable and can be replicated around the province and whole country. Stay tuned for the results.
Covid outbreak slows down WASH toilet blocks
Our builder was on target to complete each toilet block project in a record 20 day schedule, when Cambodia was hit by a second wave of Covid cases. As there were many in the rural area of Angkor Thom, the government shut down the schools and even turned one school into a Covid Quarantine unit. Keeping everyone safe is our priority, so we stopped building and moved to the next construction site.
Donors
We had a surprise donation from a longtime donor, who wishes to remain anonymous. He donated $10,000 that we will use in the near future to build two of the 10 newly designed preschools. Only SIX to go and we are looking for sponsors!
