Celebrate National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day with LA Animal Services by Adding
a Pet to Your Family
Los Angeles, April 30, 2021 – Today is National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day, and what better way to celebrate than adopting a furry animal friend from LA Animal Services? National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day was established to bring awareness to helping shelter animals find homes across the country. Although our Animal Services Centers are open by appointment, you can still adopt or foster a pet today. 

If you would like to adopt a pet, please follow these steps:

  • Visit laanimalservices.com/adopt and identify an animal you would like to adopt.
  • Call 888-452-7381 with the Animal ID number or A# (example: A1234567).
  • LA Animal Services will share all the information available on that animal.
  • If you’re interested in moving forward with the adoption, LA Animal Services will take your information and schedule a pick-up appointment.
  • During the appointment, staff will introduce you to your selected animal.
  • To follow COVID-19 safety protocols, social distancing will be observed and face coverings will be required during your scheduled appointment.
  • Appointments will be scheduled daily at our six LA Animal Services Centers from 11am to 4pm.
If you would like to adopt a pet who is currently in foster care:
  • Visit laanimalservices.com/adopt and identify an animal you would like to adopt.
  • Call 888-452-7381 with the Animal ID number or A# (example: A1234567).
  • An LA Animal Services staff member will arrange for a meeting at the designated Animal Services Center or a virtual (video) meeting with the interested party (person interested in adopting) and the foster family of the animal in question, where the potential adopter can find out more about the animal, and see how the pet interacts with the foster family.
  • If the interested party would like to proceed with the adoption, LA Animal Services staff member will facilitate the adoption process, which includes completing all the necessary adoption paperwork, collection of adoption fees, and then schedule an in-person appointment for the interested party to come into the designated Animal Services Center to meet and pick-up their new animal companion.
If you are unable to adopt a pet, please consider fostering one of our amazing dogs, cats, or kittens from our Centers to give them a temporary break from kennel life by visiting laanimalservices.com/adopt.
