Celebrate National Dog Day With LA Animal Services!
Snap A Photo Of Your Dog, Share Your Pet’s Story,
Or Adopt Or Foster A Furry Friend!
Los Angeles, August 26, 2021 –  It’s time to break out the treats, play fetch and go for a walk! Today is National Dog Day, so let’s celebrate our fabulous canine companions for the joy and fun they bring to our lives!

Adopt a Pet this Weekend

For those who would like to adopt or foster a pet, we invite you to visit one of our six LA Animal Services Centers this weekend, as we host an onsite adoption event on Saturday, August 28 and Sunday, August 29 as part of the NBC4 and Telemundo 52’s Clear the Shelters™ 2021 pet adoption campaign. Our six LA Animal Services Centers are open without appointments on Saturdays and Sundays, from 11am to 5pm. During this weekend’s adoption event, adoption fees for dogs and puppies will be $20, which does not include the $20 license fee. Adoption fees for cats and kittens will be waived thanks to a generous donation by the ASPCA.

“Our Centers are filled with amazing dogs, puppies, cats, and kittens who are ready to meet you,” said Dana Brown, General Manager for LA Animal Services. “We are excited to be a part of NBC4 and Telemundo 52’s Clear the Shelters campaign and join more than 70 city and county shelters and nonprofit rescue organizations in helping dogs and cats find their new homes.”

Paw it Forward and Make a Donation

For individuals who are unable to adopt a pet, but would like to show their support of NBC4 and Telemundo 52’s Clear the Shelters™, may visit GreaterGood.org’s donation site at ClearTheSheltersFund.org and make a donation to LA Animal Services. Donations of up to $50,000 will be matched by Hill's Pet Nutrition, the national sponsor of the Clear The Shelters campaign. You may also find out about items you can donate to our Centers or make a donation directly to LA Animal Services by clicking here

For those with canine companions at home, we’re encouraging dog lovers who have already adopted or fostered from LA Animal Services to snap a photo and share it with us on social media using the hashtags #NationalDogDay #LAcitypets #LAanimalservices and tag us! We’re also always looking for stories to feature about our foster finishers and shelter guests who’ve found their permanent homes, so we encourage you to submit your photos and stories to us so we can share your pet’s happy tails!

Do You Speak Dog?

Ever wonder what a dog is saying? View this fun and informative video to learn how to safely approach and meet a dog, and get a better understanding of their body language so we know what our furry four-legged friends are telling us, like when they would prefer not to socialize and meet you, and when they are ready to play. Then, take the quiz to see if you can speak dog.

Center Operating Hours

Our six LA Animal Services locations will begin operating without appointments every Saturday and Sunday, from 11am to 5pm. We will continue to operate by appointment during the week, Tuesday through Friday, for pet adoptions, fostering, and owner surrender, with Centers closed on Mondays. Sick or injured animals will be admitted without an appointment. Appointments may be scheduled by going online or by calling 1-888-452-7381.
