Celebrate National Foster a Pet Month

By Being a Kitten Foster with LA Animal Services

Attend A Special Kitten Shower Event or

If You Opt to Adopt? Enjoy Reduced Adoption Fees

Los Angeles, June 17, 2022 – With June being National Foster a Pet Month, LA Animal Services will be hosting a special “kitten shower” event happening at our East Valley Animal Services Center on Saturday, June 18, 2022, from 12 Noon to 1pm. This special noontime event will educate and answer questions animal lovers may have about caring for baby kittens. For those ready to adopt a pet, adoption fees for dogs and puppies will be reduced and cat and kitten adoption fees will be waived. View pets available for adoption here.

Feline fans are invited to come to our free, in-person event to find out how to be a hero kitten foster, get a hands-on baby bottling demonstration, as well as provide you with supplies to start you on your kitten foster journey. The event also includes a donation drive where you can drop off donations or make a donation online.

“Fostering is an extremely rewarding experience, and our goal in hosting these ‘kitten showers’ is to encourage more people to become fosters to baby kittens who come into our shelters that often need round-the-clock care,” said Annette Ramirez, Interim General Manager for LA Animal Services. “With the right resources and information, we can all learn to save the lives of kittens.”

Be a kitten foster volunteer lifesaver!

Kitten season is the time of year when unspayed female cats have most of their kittens, and the season generally stretches from May to November. Newborn kittens are the most at-risk animals entering shelters.

We’re always looking for foster volunteers who can care for bottle baby kittens -- kittens who are learning to eat on their own -- as well as sick kittens and moms with kittens. Help save the lives of these vulnerable felines. Complete the foster application and email it to ani.foster@lacity.org.

LA Animal Services provides kitten foster volunteers with items needed to help you care for your foster furry bundle, including: carrier, formula, heating pad/disc, bottles, pillow toy, and blankets for newborns (less than two-weeks-old) to toys, bowls, and litter and litter boxes for transitional (three- to five-weeks- old) or self-sustaining kittens (six- to eight-weeks-old).

If you have been approved to foster kittens with LA Animal Services, email your district's lifesaving liaison to be set up with your foster kittens.
