This National Library Week, tune in for a special conversation celebrating the people and places that make libraries so vital. PBS Books is bringing together Librarian Heather-Marie Montilla and Daniel Montgomery, Executive Director of the American Library Association, to explore the impact libraries have on our culture, civic life, and shared future.
Together they'll discuss the Independent Lens documentary The Librarians and the beloved film Free for All: The Public Library, along with insights from PBS Books' Filmmaker Talks with the creators behind both works. The club returns to discuss Memorials by Richard Chizmar, a slow-burning blend of folk and psychological horror that starts as a road trip and becomes something far more unsettling.
Three college students set out through the Appalachian backwoods to film a documentary on roadside memorials, but the further they travel, the stranger things get. A recurring symbol appears on memorial after memorial. Someone seems to be following them. The locals aren't friendly. And the question that keeps nagging at them, whether these roadside deaths were really accidents at all, starts to feel very personal.
Copies are on reserve on the second floor of the Main Library.
