This January, celebrate National #MentoringMonth with Big Brothers Big Sisters! Mentoring is a powerful tool for empowering youth and helping them realize their full potential. It provides guidance, support, and a positive role model, helping young people build confidence, develop critical life skills, and achieve their goals. Share your mentoring experience or become a Big today at bbbscentralcarolinas.org. #BeBig #ItTakesLittleToBeBig

Happy New Year & Happy National Mentoring Month!

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday and are looking ahead to the meaningful memories you’ll create with your Little in 2026.

January is National Mentoring Month, and we’re excited to celebrate all of our Bigs. We’ll be announcing our Big Brother and Big Sister of the Year on January 30th, at the DoubleTree Hotel Uptown.

On January 22 at the UNC Center City, DuBois Center, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., we will be hosting an Impactful Mentoring Summit. An agenda and formal invitation will be shared with you soon. The summit will feature valuable insights and resources designed to support you in your role as a mentor.

Now is a great time to establish goals for 2026 with your Little. These goals might focus on what they’d like to achieve at home, such as strengthening behaviors with siblings and adults or taking on more responsibility, or at school, including peer interactions, academic performance, and preparation.

You may choose to work toward milestones outlined in your Little’s development plan or identify ways to further strengthen your relationship through shared experiences like match events and workshops. There are many opportunities to enrich both your mentoring journey and your Little’s growth. Please reach out to your Match Support Specialist for guidance and ideas that may be the best fit for your match.

We thank you for your gift of serving as a mentor! You make fulfilling our mission possible. Happy National Mentoring Month!

Yours in service to youth,

Donna Dunlap

BIG SMILES AND A LITTLE HOLIDAY MAGIC!

Our Bigs and Littles enjoyed a special holiday shopping experience at Target, where Littles picked out gifts of their choosing while learning the value of budgeting with the guidance of their Bigs.

Experiences like this help create joyful memories while building confidence and life skills that last beyond the holidays.

A special shoutout to Big Brother Jamar for connecting Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Carolinas with Target to make this meaningful experience possible.

IT'S GAME TIME!

Bigs and Littles enjoyed an unforgettable experience playing the life sized Monopoly game at Blume Studios.

Matches stepped into the oversized version of the classic board game for hands on fun and friendly competition. A special thank you to Blumenthal Arts for purchasing a board and making this experience possible for our matches.

LIGHT THE KNIGHTS FESTIVAL!

Last month, our Bigs and Littles attended the Light the Knights festival uptown, courtesy of Dilworth Church. Matches enjoyed ice skating, snow tubing, a lights show, a Santa visit and goodie bags! Some matches sharpened their ice skating skills while others tried it for the first time and loved it. Thanks Dilworth for sponsoring!
