Dear Kelly,

Celebrate Ontario Agriculture Week with Farm & Food Care Ontario (FFCO) October 3 to 9, 2022

Ontario Agriculture Week is an annual opportunity for everyone to celebrate the importance of food and farming in our province in the week leading up to Thanksgiving, a holiday closely associated with food in Canada.

Ontario Agriculture Week is dedicated to celebrating the abundance of food our farmers produce, the Ontarians that the industry employs, the rural communities it supports and the economic engine that farmers help to fuel. Ontario agriculture is THE source of safe, healthy food that we can all be proud to put on the table for our families. Whether you are making a full turkey dinner or planning for your Halloween pumpkins, selecting local food, fibre and flowers supports agriculture and all related industries in this province.

There are many ways to celebrate Ontario Agriculture Week this year. FFCO would like to share with you some of ways you can join in to recognize Ontario farmers:

  • Choose Ontario-grown when you shop; locally grown food isn’t just available at farmers’ markets and farm stands. You can find Ontario produce, eggs, dairy, meat and processed food items in your local grocery stores.

  • The Ontario Federation of Agriculture and FFCO will be hosting four Source Local Food Fest pop-up free lunch events in Thunder Bay, London, Ottawa and Halton. See below for details.

  • FFCO will host its third Breakfast from the Farm event of 2022 at the Milton Fairgrounds, October 8th, 2022 from 8 a.m. to noon. Link to tickets below.

If an in-person event isn't close by, you can also commemorate Ontario Agriculture Week online using FFCO's social media graphics, which you can find below.

Finally, FFCO will partner with AgScape to host three Virtual Food & Farm field trips to bring the farm to classrooms and homes across the province. Details below.

Source Local Food Fest

FFCO and the Ontario Federation of Agriculture are reminding Ontarians to Source Local when they are shopping for food, fiber and flowers.

A province-wide Source Local Food Fest will take place in four locations that week:

  • October 3 in Thunder Bay: 11 to 1 at the Marina, Festival area.
  • October 4 in London: 11 to 1 at Dundas Place in front of Fanshawe College.
  • October 6 in Ottawa: 11 to 1 at Algonquin College in Ottawa.
  • October 7 in Halton: 3 to 8 at Andrews Farm & Winery, 9635 10 Side Road, Milton

These ‘Pic or Post’ events provide a free meal to the first 250 people on site. Those who post about it on social media using the hash tag #SourceLocal or pose for a photo will be entered in a contest to win $250 in free groceries.
