Celebrating Our History: Honoring Past Leaders at the Presidents' Brunch!

In October, we hosted our annual Past Presidents' Brunch, a cherished tradition that recognizes the visionaries who have built the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southwest Virginia.

Our current leadership, including CEO Rebekah Meadows, CDO Christina Ballard, and Incoming Chair Melinda Pyle, delivered heartfelt remarks expressing our immense gratitude for the hard work, dedication, and lasting impact of our past Board Chairs. Their efforts laid the groundwork for the successful Clubs we operate today. It was a wonderful morning of connection, appreciation, and honoring the powerful legacy that guides our mission.

LIGHTS ON AFTERSCHOOL

Last month, we joined a nationwide movement to celebrate the power of afterschool programs during the annual Lights On Afterschool event. In one week, our Clubs hosted 8 family night events in celebration of LOA.

Across the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southwest Virginia, we showcased the many ways our programs support students—offering opportunities for academic help, creative expression, mentorship, and building vital life skills. Lights On Afterschool is the only nationwide event celebrating these programs, and our participation sends a powerful message: millions more kids need safe, quality afterschool programs.

From Design to Runway

The talent and creativity of our Club members were on full display at the spectacular 9th Street Fashion Show! With over 30 families in attendance, this event was a major highlight of the month, giving our youth a platform to express themselves, build confidence, and showcase their individual style. From designing accessories to modeling their favorite looks, the members were the stars of the show! Events like this help our kids develop self-esteem, teamwork skills, and a sense of pride in their accomplishments.

We were honored to have parents and guardians participate in the event's celebration.

We are thrilled to celebrate a special milestone with our incredible partners at Panda Cares, the charitable arm of Panda Express! This month marks the fifth anniversary of their dedication to supporting organizations like ours across the nation.
