Join us in celebrating
PRIDE Month

By Ashley Tatum, Case Manager

As we all celebrate PRIDE Month this June, we typically think about parades, celebrations and liberation. However, we must also acknowledge that "coming out" and being our authentic selves isn’t always or necessarily easy, and for some it can lead to estranged family relationships.

This is why when people ask how they can be allies or support the LGBTQIA+ community, one of my favorite things to suggest is to volunteer with Free Mom Hugs. The message behind Free Mom Hugs is simple: we attend PRIDE, protests and other human rights events to offer support in one of the simplest ways-hugs. You will see groups of parents and allies all across the country willing to hug those who need it most. No matter how inclusive our nation may become, someone can always use a hug from mom. For more information, visit the websites below. Happy PRIDE!

PTSD Awareness Month
Americans’ Strong Misconceptions On PTSD Revealed

June marks PTSD Awareness Month, intended to raise public awareness and reduce the stigma associated with the disorder. Cohen Veterans Network recently revealed findings of its America’s Mental Health PTSD Pulse Survey, which looked at Americans’ general knowledge and understanding of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. America's Mental Health survey found that 1 in 4 Americans believe PTSD is NOT treatable. This is a myth! PTSD is treatable. There are multiple treatment options that have been proven effective for treating PTSD! Learn more: www.cohenveteransnetwork.org/amhpulse
