For so many of us, Shabbat has been an important and grounding ritual during the uncertainty of the pandemic. Each week, Shabbat gives us the opportunity to gather with Temple friends and family in celebration and prayer, to express our gratitude and find comfort with our community.

This year, in addition to Tot Shabbat and our “regular” Friday night Shabbat services, we are pleased to offer a variety of Shabbat prayer experiences for the Temple Sinai community - some new and some returning favorites.

A note about Shabbat Morning Services (Saturdays at 10:30 AM):
Now that we no longer have capacity limits in the sanctuary, Shabbat Morning Services are once again open to the congregation. Join your Temple community to hear the weekly Torah reading, sing the Shabbat morning prayers and celebrate with our b’nai mitzvah and their families. Children will be invited up at the end of services for a special blessing. Shabbat morning services this year are only held on Saturdays when b’nai mitzvah are taking place, so please check the Temple calendar in advance.

New Friday Night Shabbat Service Experiences:
Shabbat b’Yachad (Once a Month at 6:00 PM) - starting Oct. 15th

Shabbat b’Yachad (Shabbat Together) is a new intergenerational Friday night prayer experience with an earlier start time and upbeat melodies that are engaging and familiar to our religious school students and fun for the whole congregation.

Shabbat b’Yachad begins at 6 pm and will bring families with children and the entire Temple community together for a shared service, including a special blessing for all members celebrating birthdays that month. Some Shabbat b’Yachad services will include participation by certain grades, but every service is open to all.  This will be the only service on these Friday nights and
Mi Shebeirach and Kaddish will be included.
Shabbat Nefesh (Select Fridays at 7:30 PM) - starting Dec. 17th
Shabbat Nefesh (Shabbat of the Soul) is a new contemplative, musical prayer service with opportunities for reflection and spiritual connection.

Returning Favorites:

Blue Jean Shabbat (Select Fridays at 7:30 PM) - starting Oct. 29th
Blue Jean Shabbat is back by popular demand! This informal, engaging service features guitar-playing Temple members who join the clergy in leading prayers around a faux campfire. Gather ‘round to sing and share Shabbat together.

Tot Shabbat (Select Fridays at 5:30 PM) - starting Oct. 22nd
Tot Shabbat brings families with young children together for an early service to sing, dance, say the Shabbat blessings and celebrate together. Congregational Shabbat services follow at 7:30 pm.

Shabbat Services (Fridays at 7:30 PM)
In addition to special Friday night services, we will also celebrate Shabbat on many Friday nights with our regular Temple Sinai service, led by the clergy with piano accompaniment.

Please Note: All Shabbat services (except for Tot Shabbat) continue to be in-person as well as online. If you need to join virtually, the sanctuary services are available via livestream on the Temple website or the Temple’s Facebook page and outdoor services will be on Facebook. Please check the Kol Sinai emails or the Temple’s online calendar each week for service details.

We look forward to a wonderful year of celebrating Shabbat together!
