This Month at Beech Brook | | Connecting you to agency updates, parenting tips, resources, and reflections from our CEO | | Honoring Those Who Strengthen Families | | A Message from Beech Brook President/CEO, Tom Royer | | | | |
March brings together two meaningful observances: Social Work Month and Women’s History Month — both deeply connected to the heart of Beech Brook’s mission.
Our social workers, counselors, and family support professionals are often the steady presence during life’s most uncertain moments. When families are navigating trauma, mental health challenges, poverty, foster care transitions, and unexpected crises, they help restore stability and hope.
| | |
They listen.
They advocate.
They problem-solve.
And they walk alongside parents who are doing everything they can to build safe, secure futures for their children.
| |
Across generations, women have been central to this work — as founders, caregivers, professionals, foster parents, and community leaders. Today, many of the families we serve are led by strong women carrying extraordinary responsibility. Because of your support, they do not have to carry it alone.
Your support makes it possible for social workers to show up every day with care and compassion. Together, we help families build stability, find healing, and grow stronger for the future.
Strong families don’t happen by accident — they happen when communities decide they matter.
Thank you for helping children and families thrive.

Teaching Our Children to Honor Strong Women
Women's History Month
| The lessons we teach at home shape the next generation. Use these simple tips to help your children celebrate, respect, and support the women in their lives. | | | |
1. Share a Story
Talk with children about a woman who inspires you — in your family or in history. Representation builds possibility.
2. Model Healthy Boundaries
Women and girls are often socialized to over-give. Teach them that it's okay to say no, rest is productive, and you deserve respect.
3. Support Girls' Confidence
Encourage problem-solving instead of rescuing. Replace “Be careful” with “You’ve got this.”
| | |
4. Recognize the Care Work Around You
Many of the stabilizing forces in families and communities are women — mothers, grandmothers, foster parents, teachers, therapists.
5. Invest in Community
Support organizations (like Beech Brook!) that provide mental health services, foster care support, prevention programming, and family stabilization services.
