Dear Woodbury,
Summer is here! School is out and the days are long, even if they are now beginning to get a little bit shorter every day. I hope people are using the time to take a vacation or spend time with family or do something fun.
Things are busy as ever at Parks and Recreation. We’ve been gearing up for our own Summer Camp program, as well as preparing a variety of other camp options for anyone looking for an experience with a specific activity. Whether you are looking for a half-day or full-day experience for your kids, we still have space available across our camps.
Summer for us also means the return of the Summer Concert Series, and with the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence right around the corner, we are also putting on a celebratory event for our first concert on July 8th. It’s going to be a great show with plenty to see, so I hope to see many of you at the kickoff to the concert series as we celebrate America250 together.
Please keep reading to see everything we have to offer this summer. Our maintainer team have been working hard to keep the parks and fields in great shape so that everyone has a place to play. Play a game, have a picnic, go for a hike, or whatever else motivates you to get some fresh air and enjoy the warm weather. Before you know it the weather will turn cold again, so take advantage while you can!

July is National Parks & Recreation Month!
July is National Parks & Recreation Month, a time to celebrate the parks, programs, events, trails, facilities, and people that help build a stronger, healthier, and more connected community.
Here in Woodbury, Parks & Recreation helps bring people together through summer camps, fitness and enrichment classes, concerts, special events, open spaces, and recreational opportunities for all ages. Whether you're attending a summer concert at Hollow Park, participating in a program, hiking and exploring one of our parks, or enjoying time outdoors with family and friends, there are countless ways to stay active, connected, and engaged.
To celebrate, we invite residents to participate in our Woodbury Parks & Rec Park-Opoly Challenge throughout the month of July. Complete activities at parks and community spaces around town, check off spaces on your game board, and earn entries into a drawing for a prize. It's a fun way to discover new experiences, enjoy the outdoors, and celebrate all that makes Woodbury special.

WPR Instructor Highlight - Say Hello to Leah Bigham
Leah will be leading Woodbury Parks & Recreation’s Summer Camp program as Camp Director this year! She is currently studying to become a middle school history teacher, a path that has provided her with many opportunities to work with and support children throughout her education.
For the past two summers, Leah has worked as a counselor for the Woodbury Teen Travel Camp, gaining valuable experience in program planning, leadership, and camper engagement. She is excited to bring new ideas and activities to camp this year and looks forward to helping make this summer a memorable experience for every camper!

Summer Concert Series Returns to Hollow Park!
Join us this summer at Hollow Park for six weeks of great music, beginning July 8 with a special Kickoff event, Woodbury Celebrates America's 250.
In addition to a performance by NightShift, the July 8 celebration will feature community activities, historical displays, military vehicles, a community Declaration Signing, and more as Woodbury joins communities across the nation in commemorating America's upcoming 250th anniversary.

Our July 8 event marks the 250th anniversary of July 8, 1776, when the Declaration of Independence was first publicly read to the American people in Philadelphia. The evening will combine music, history, patriotism, and community engagement in a celebration designed for residents of all ages.
Activities begin at 5 p.m. and will feature military vehicle displays, community organization exhibits, food and ice cream vendors, historical displays, and family-friendly activities.
A special Woodbury Declaration Signing will invite residents to participate in a community tribute inspired by the events of 1776. Visitors will also have the opportunity to learn about Connecticut’s four signers of the Declaration of Independence through educational displays highlighting their contributions to the founding of our nation.
Children are invited to bring their decorated bicycle and join the patriotic Bike Brigade at 6 p.m. as it makes its way through the park. There will be a Bike Decorating Station hosted by Woodbury Troop 480 beginning at 5 p.m.
The evening will place special emphasis on honoring those who have served our country. Veterans and active-duty military personnel, along with their immediate families, are invited to enjoy the festivities from a reserved VIP seating area during the concert.
The celebration will culminate with a performance by NightShift at 6:30 p.m., launching Woodbury’s 2026 Summer Concert Series.
Admission is free and open to the public. Residents are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and spend the evening enjoying the many activities, displays, and entertainment planned throughout the event.

| You Gotta Believe Basketball Camp Grades 1-9 ~ This program will provide: development of basketball fundamentals and competitive games, daily contests, prizes and giveaways for each player, award ceremony on final day of camp and a fun filled week where each player goes home with something. With strategies to develop the all-around player, the staff works hard to be sure there is a positive, upbeat and energetic climate for making the most out of the experience. Fundamentals are the focus. All aspects of game are explored including offense, defense, and foul shooting. Community Spotlight: Independence Day Military Vehicle Convoy!
Start your Fourth of July celebration by watching an incredible Military Vehicle Convoy travel through 19 Connecticut Towns!
Beginning at 9:30 AM in Woodbury, the convoy features 21 historic and modern military vehicles. Wave your American flags, gather with family and friends, and enjoy this unique Independence Day tradition as the convoy passes through your community.
A big thank you to Manzi Military for organizing this annual Independence Day tradition and helping keep military history alive for our community!
