Dear Or Shalom Community,

Tu B'Shvat, the Jewish New Year for Trees, is fast approaching! This year, Or Shalom will have two events to help bring in this earth-based holiday. Everyone is welcome to attend to either event — or both! — but space is limited, so please RSVP as soon as you are able!

Family Tu B’Shvat Seder

Tuesday, January 27, 4:30 - 6 PM

331 Cortland Ave

Join us for a joyful, family-friendly Tu B’Shvat Seder led by our Or Shalom Community School students. Together, we’ll call in the powers of water to nourish, sustain, and give life to all beings — while taking a spiritual journey through the Four Worlds of Jewish tradition.

As we move from world to world, we’ll eat delicious blessings of trees and bushes, taste the fruits of the earth, sing, play, pray, and reflect on our connection to nature, water, and one another. Our students will guide us through ritual, song, storytelling, and hands-on moments designed for the whole family.

All Or Shalom families welcome, including OSCS parents and Sunday Family Program families. Limited to 30 participants.

🗓️ Note: There will be no Sunday Family Program on February 1, as this family celebration will take its place.

Community Tu B'Shvat Seder

Sunday, February 1, 6 - 8 PM

331 Cortland Ave

Join R’ Faryn this Tu B’Shvat for a mystical wandering through the four worlds!

In Medieval Times, the Jewish new year of the trees (Tu B’Shvat) got a special upgrade when the Kabbalists instituted for it a Seder. Similar to the Passover Seder, the Tu B’Shvat Seder takes us on a journey. Using fruits and nuts as our teachers, the Seder guides us from the material to the immaterial through the senses of taste, smell and touch.

This Seder, which will focus on and delve into the mystical wisdom of Tu B’Shvat, is for the entire Or Shalom community, but is designed with adult minds in mind. If you are looking for a family-friendly Seder, join Or Shalom Community School on Tuesday, January 27th for a Seder designed by the students for their families and wider community (see above).
