The Laguna Beach Cultural Arts Center proudly presents Maya Lin: A Strong Clear Vision, an Academy Award-winning documentary that tells the extraordinary story of a young woman who transformed the way we remember history.

At just 20 years old, Maya Lin, a Chinese American architecture student, won a nationwide competition to design the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. Her strikingly minimalist design—now one of the most revered monuments in the world—was met with intense controversy, political backlash, and personal attacks, particularly due to her age, gender, and Asian heritage. Yet, through unwavering resilience and an unshakable belief in her artistic vision, Lin overcame adversity to create a profoundly moving work that redefined public memorials.

Directed by Freida Lee Mock, this inspiring documentary explores the power of art, identity, and perseverance, offering an intimate look at a groundbreaking artist whose work continues to shape our collective memory.

Why This Matters—And How You Can Help

Women’s voices have shaped history, yet their stories are too often overlooked. At LBCAC, we are dedicated to shining a light on the women who have challenged convention, broken barriers, and changed the world through their vision, artistry, and courage. Maya Lin: A Strong Clear Vision is just one of many powerful stories we are sharing during our Women’s History Month celebration.

We need your help to spread the word about these incredible women and events. By attending, sharing, and inviting others, you become part of a movement to amplify these voices and ensure their contributions are recognized. Celebrate with us, be inspired, and help us create a future where every woman’s story is heard.

Please share this event with your friends, family, and community. Together, we can make a lasting impact.

A short discussion will follow screening.
