An evening with award-winning journalist Deborah Roberts, author of Sisters Loved and Treasured: Stories of Unbreakable Bonds, a celebration of sisterhood, featuring more than 50 personal stories by Viola Davis, Jenna Bush Hager and Barbara Bush, Arianna Huffington, Octavia Spencer and many more. The event will be moderated by Makeda Mays Green, SVP, Digital & Cultural Consumer Insights, Nickelodeon. Book sale and signing by Elm Street Books. Registration required.

Have you ever wondered what it feels like to ride the runners behind a team of dogs, steering a loaded sled through mountainous terrain, crossing the vast Alaskan tundra, hugging the shoreline of the great Bering Sea? What it takes to care for a team of Alaskan huskies? Could your dog be a sled dog, too? Musher Karen Land will cover these subjects and more when she and Sophia, an Alaskan husky, visit. All ages. Women's Self-Defense Workshop

Sunday, March 22 from 2 to 3:30 p.m.

Main Library, Ann M. Sexton Board Room

Club Kung Fu of Stamford will lead a female-centric self-defense workshop focusing on three phases: setting up boundaries and assessing the threat; learning the best way to strike using palms, elbows and knees; and defending against chokes, grabs and mounts. Club Kung Fu practices the traditional Chinese martial art of Wing Tsun, which was originally created by Buddhist nun Ng Mui to defend against typically larger and stronger opponents. Please wear comfortable clothing and sneakers. Teens and adults. Registration required.
