LAST CHANCE: Kokoro: The Story of Sacramento’s Lost Japantown on View Through March 29

This month is your last chance to experience Kokoro, the story of a once-thriving downtown community devastated by forced removal during WWII and again by redevelopment in the 1950s. Walk through the history and heart of this vanished Sacramento neighborhood and discover a vital chapter of our city’s past through rare photographs and artifacts from family collections.

EVENT RECAP

The Ireichō: Book of Names

Last month we hosted the Ireichō: Book of Names, a monumental record honoring the 125,284 Japanese Americans unjustly incarcerated during WWII.

Between February 14 and 19, visitors of all ages came to stand before the names printed in the Ireichō. Many of them were survivors who lived through the incarceration under Executive Order 9066, and added a "hanko" stamp beneath their own names. Others were children, grandchildren, brothers, sisters, and friends remembering their loved ones.

Thank you to all who visited!

The Ireichō now makes its way to Portland, the next stop on its 20-month national tour.
