June 20th is World Refugee Day, an annual, global celebration of the contributions, courage, and resilience of refugees.
JFS continues to serve as the only resettlement agency in the state. Over the past four years, we have resettled and reunited families, provided critical case management and counseling services, and engaged community members in the refugee experience through education and volunteerism.
Thank you to everyone who makes this work possible. We are looking forward to welcoming more families to Delaware soon!

Our History and Future in Resettlement:
JFS has a long history of advocating for and assisting newcomers to America as they build new lives and raise their families in Delaware. In the 1980's JFS was instrumental in resettling hundreds of families in Delaware from the former Soviet Union and, since 1997, have been providing émigré services for refugees who have already arrived in the state. In 2016, we relaunched our active resettlement efforts through the Refugee Integration Support Effort (RISE), at which time JFS Delaware became the only resettlement agency in the state. Since then—with support from community volunteers, local congregations, the State of Delaware and its leaders, and national partners—JFS has resettled and reunited 59 individuals (15 families) to a new, safe home in Delaware.
We are dedicated to this important work and grateful for all the support we have received to make it possible.
When political restrictions and the worldwide pandemic halted refugee admissions to the US, we were disappointed but continued pursuing our mission to welcome the stranger; our intensive case management services for immigrant populations in Delaware never slowed.
We are encouraged by President Biden's revised refugee admissions cap at 62,500 and excited to announce that our active resettlement will be resuming again soon! We look forward to welcoming more families to Delaware and providing the services and support they need to find security, happiness, and success in their new homes.
In preparation for our new resettlement cases, we are seeking volunteers, landlords, employers, and other professionals to rebuild and reactivate our network of support as we are notified of incoming families. As each resettlement case begins, we will also be in need of donations to help welcome the individuals and families into furnished homes. Please stay tuned for announcements of incoming cases and how you can help.
