A resident reported a scam call that involved the caller claiming to be from “Public Works” and demanding immediate payment for a late bill or the resident’s services would be shut off. The City does not make calls to demand payments for any late bills and residents should be suspicious of any caller that makes a threat and demands immediate payment. This is a scare tactic intended to make people act rashly, without thinking things through first.
Scammers also often spoof phone numbers of government agencies to make it appear like the call comes from their office. If you get a suspicious call from someone claiming to be from any government agency, hang up and call that agency back directly to verify the call. And then please report any local scams to the non-emergency dispatch line at (520) 803-3555.
